Found at range

So was at the range tonight and found one of those flex tip type bullets. Didnt open and don't know the story on it. I thought it would have opened up a bit.

This is my 338-06. The smaller holes were some 7mm.

How they open depends on the medium they were shot into. Some things expand more when they encounter hydrostatic shock from something flesh-like with a liquid content. Something like plywood or what have you would result in a much different effect on the bullet.

always difficult to tell... I once shot a tree with a 300gr. 50cal SST slug (Hornady SST Sabot Slug) into a tree and no exit, turns out complete and utter failure with total disintergration, but what a would channel it would have been! Soft tissue would not have allowed the same preformance... I checked and hope to recheck these results

I have always wondered about the flex tips so this was just interesting to me. It would have gone through plywood then into dirt. It may well have been a pistol for all I know. I have always wondered about the tips freezing hard at -30 and igniting the bullet in front in the tube of a lever gun.

I measured the bullet. .451 and 225 gr. Sounds like 45Colt

What you're looking at there is a hornady leverevolution .45-70 I think

Looks to me like a real slow mover! Not enough speed to initiate expansion.

The 45-70 FTX's are 325 grains.

Yeah I have only bought one pack but will use them again. I like to be able to stick em on an old target in case I can't find pins. The holes show up good enough to easily see whats going on. I wish the 1" lines were a little better defined for 100yd use.
