Gas boats only allowed in Middle and Upper Waterton lake in Waterton park. Requires a boat launch permit.

Minnewanka is the only lake in Banff park that allows gas boats.

Jasper park is hard to find the info on gas restrictions.

Outside of the parks:
Abraham lake west of Rocky (A windy lake, some deadhead and shallow area dangers)
Brazeau dam (lots of deadheads and stumpage to watch for)
Rock Lake north of Hinton.

Be very alert to wind while on the mountain lakes. It can change direction and intensity very quickly. A storm can blow in fast.

Looks like it will be Lake Minnewanka, sounds like an awesome place to go for Lakers if it does not get windy.
Does anyone have any Mid July tips?
Hows the camping ?

And also Spray Lake above Canmore.

All are susceptible to wind.

Smile Rentals

You used to be able to rent power boats on Minniwanka. It would save hauling one.

The camping is great. A horse back trip is very cool too.

Nope trailers are allowed no sevices ie camping . Id suggest pre booking limited number of mobile palace sites. This year coukd snow any time lol. Keep a weather eye about ya. Not much refuge on the long lake.

It does and will get windy. Once it starts get off the water as quick as possible. Not a nice place to be when the wind kicks up. Late July and the lakers have gone deep so down riggers are a must. Hoochies work well for me, some also will still jig but then you are fishing in 100 FOW plus.

HAVE FUN

in July after high water, I use Apex in black & silver, in 40 - 60 FOW. Constantly jig-zag with aggressive turns as you troll with most hits coming as the lure picks up speed coming out of the inside turn.
Lake trout are notorious for following a lure without striking, but as a fluttering lure suddenly picks up speed and darts off, they are often triggered into striking.
