My grandfather lost his 12.6 endorsement this way. Shameful.

After waiting 6 weeks I called and the lady asked me a few questions (no I don't own any firearms, my pal is expired!) and told me she would approve it and send it to printing. I had it a week later.

You could have it tattooed somewhere a little more private.

I feel your pain man. Although I don't watch hockey I just can get enough of NFL. After the hunting season ends it keeps me happy, hope your favorite teams wins.

On the renewal form it asks if you own firearms. Is this something we actually need to answer?

No Kidding, was I ever sweating that one out!!!!

What I found the most disturbing is that under the law, while I was waiting for my new PAL and had my weapons stored at my home, is that I was considered a criminal by our highly intelligent, Big Brother, Orwellian Government.

It's silly that you become a criminal, as soon as your PAL expires, but the bottom line in that it's up to the individual to renew his/her PAL before it expires. If you let it expire, then you have nobody but yourself to blame.

Sorry buddy, but I completely disagree. The Government sent my renewal application to my old address that was burned to the ground.

If they are going to make you a criminal, then they should let you know that it's time to renew.

Are you not capable of keeping track of the expiry dates of important documents without the government sending you reminders? I keep track of the expiry date of my PAL, my operators license and my passport, and I apply for renewal long before they expire.

As far as the renewal notice being sent to a house that burned down, did you send the CFC a change of address when you moved, as the law requires?

No I did not but everything else was changed ie. drivers license etc.

I think you are missing my point big time, and I never said that I did not take any responsibility in the mishap.

My point is that if our government is going to arbitrarily turn ordinary, decent, honest Canadian citizens into criminals, that the onus is on them to inform the citizen that they are about to label you a criminal.

So you never sent a change of address? How were they supposed to know that you moved, and what your new address was. They sent the renewal notice to the address that they had listed for you, what else were they supposed to do? It's time to stop blaming the system for your mistake.

You really are missing my message, but that is not unlike you elkhunter, you are always confrontational and on the scrape. The government had my change of address.

Anyhow there is absolutely nothing you can say that will change my mind and have me believe that I am a criminal because I forgot to fill out some paperwork after an idiot burned down my home.

Oh and by the way even the government, the PC's anyway, have come to the conclusion that this policy is asinine and even proposed to change this STUPID policy on the Parliament floor a couple of weeks ago.

Even though we never seem to agree on anything, I can sincerely say that I hope what happened to me never happens to you!

I would be interesting to know if anyone on AO, besides the PC government agrees with my point of view???
