Default Couple Semi-Technical noob questions

Started fishing last year around Red Deer area, havnt been boating or caught anything other than pike for the most part but do have a few questions along the way.

Because of my pike fishing background and just starting to fish the RDR and other species in general I do typically keep my leader on:
(also prefer lure fishing to 1 cast and wait fishing)

-What lure types can I NOT use leaders for due to wrecking the action completely? I feel that the leader (titanium 6") does drop some crankbaits like the original floater ect..

- Part 2, how much of a drop in catch rates on other species would a leader (in places like RDR stained water ect..)

Water clarity question

- For anyone thats been down to Three Mile Bend lately what would you call that kind of water, it seems like you can see about 5-8ft on sunny days but im not sure how to read water yet. Makes coloring for lures difficult.

Thanks, didnt see to much on these on search.

Aside from pike and walleye I would loose the leader. Not because of action of the lure but because in clearer waters fish spook. You will catch a lot more fish without the leader. I've tried switching back and forth in the same day just to see the difference and when ever I would loose the leader I was catching more fish and then I put it back on and the fish stop biting. You won't have trout or whitefish chomp through a line.

Cool

Join the modern side of fishing and ditch wire altogether. I use 30 lb florocarbon on the rdr this will still get walleye to hit and be capable of with standing a large percentage of pike hits . Its not perfect in either category imo its the best compromise if one could find 20 lb offshore leader florocarbon imo it may be the best balance.

Thanks for the replies!

I'm using power pro 10 and 20 depending on lures for the day. Should I tie on directly or floro leader everything? Using spinning gear so didn't want to run flouro all the way.
Guess ill just have to accept a few lure losses here and there for more hook ups.

If you are using Fluorocarbon LEADER material - not fluorocarbon line - but specifically the stuff packaged and sold as leader material it will not be bitten through, is virtually invisible, and will not dramatically impact the action of your crank bait as the material is neutrally buoyant.

It is your choice if you want to tie line to line to lure directly or use a swivel snap. I prefer swivel snaps.
