Default Caldwell rock front rest opinions?

Has anyone tried the caldwell rock front shooting rests? Pros and cons? Are they dead stable and no slop in the rest to feet connection. Any feedback is appreciated.

I have used one for the last 10 years or so, and it works fine for me.

Any wiggle or slop in the rest? Looking through the scope and moving the rifle in and out does the rest wiggle back and fourth?

The ones I have seen at the range are excellent, a good deal for the money.
No wiggles or movement at all when locked up.

Mine is solid and no wiggle, had it for years and no need to change. I did replace the front and rear bags with leather ones and it was a nice upgrade. Standard model

Only issue with the Rock BR Rest is the Plastic Wheel and shaft that locks the vertical adjustment wheel likes to come loose, often. I ended up having to modify mine to get it to quit doing that as you can't get a good enough crank on the 1.5" plastic wheel to get the thing really tight. It is too close to the bottom of the top rest. Needs a longer shaft and a T handle but interim you can run the wheel against it to hold it tight. Other than that, pretty good rest for the dollars.

The shaft and knob that lock the fine elevation setting is the one I am referring to.

Shaft and Knob just below the large diameter black fine elevation adjusting wheel.

For what do you want to use the rest for? Sighting in a rifle the are more than adequate, for competing in Bench rest I would say the competition is bare minimum. For more money I would buy a ProTektor Aluminum front rest if Bench Rest is your purpose.

Have an old Bald Eagle style one that the threads are screwed on, from too much bouncing around in the truck probably, somewhere the soft cushion on the lock screw disappeared, won't come apart any more, and I am not sure how to fix, with out having a sleeve installed in the base and a new vertical screw.
Bought a Rock as that was what was handy, it's OK, seems like anything better is going to be at least a 500.00+ bill, IE; Sinclair.

I shoot a lot of groups with the Rock Deluxe, for load development and with my precision 22lr, and it works fine for me.

Then I would move up a little. I will say this, these two will be far easier to sell than a Caldwell if BR is not your thing.

I did not realize the shade tree on is not a complete rest, just the co axial top. No wonder it is such a good price.

It all comes down to what you want, I am satisfied with a solid rest, and the Rock Deluxe allows me to shoot as good as I am capable of. If you want the extra features of a high end rest, like finer adjustments, or some windage adjustment, then spend the extra money on a higher end rest.
