Default New Ab Gopher Hunting License

Minister Todd Lloewen will announce the creation of a gopher hunting license effective May 1, 2024.

License will cost $25, plus carbon tax, plus GST. It is believed most gopher hunters idle around the field with their trucks which we know is very bad for emissions.

It is hoped most shooters will use this fine endeavor to hone their hunting skills for the fall.

There will be recommended calibers, and shooters will be asked to voluntarily record their harvest to RELM. Gopher calling courses will soon be offered through AHEIA. Another fine example of big brother there for us.

If we had an ndp government, it would have been more believable.

I heard there was to be no wasting of gopher meat, or the hides!

All heads had to be turned in for analysis.

If the NDP was still in power they would jump on this idea like a fat kid on Candy. Gave me a good chuckle, thanks.

What about back pay for all the gophers shot in the past?

Some of the fellas in the gopher threads might have to get a second job, or come out of retirement.

I had been waiting for this. My gopher outfitting business should really take off now.

I have also read the money will go towards raising more gopher fields like they do with pheasants. Found nothing on how many you can shot a day

I would like to know if we have to pay an extra trophy fee for the big ones? If is it by body size or tail length?

It will be a on a draw system with priority favouring ranchers and farmers. A lottery system will be implemented for non rural.
Proof of land access permission will need to be provided with lottery applications.

If I have a license, can I legally hunt them with my Metis or status friends who don't need one? I know we can't share harvest, just don't want to run into issues with Fish & Wildlife.

I was told gophers are delicious when canned with carrots and blueberries…. Long shelf life too… After the zombie apocalypse next year, we will be fighting for that goodness!

I hope when they enact this long overdue licensing requirement that they also make it mandatory that the meat not be wasted just like any other game animal.
I have witnessed for too many years the wanton wasteful hunting practises of so many that seem to think they can just kill these animals for sport and leave them to rot in the field. Sad really!

Just got a notice from federal environment minister - he asked me to look after the implementation of the Gopher tax. As of today, all you poor shmaks gonna be paying me $0.10 per head. If you behave well enough- I will make it tax deductible. Payments accepted in cash or gift cards.

Legit question. How do you determine the males from the females. If I’m putting out good money for a license I only want to be shooting B & C gophers. Another question which gun and monometal or bonded bullets?

I'd go partitions (but anything will work really) as long as they're stuffed in an '06 brass.
One needs to be able to find ammo in any small town corner store in the event you run out or forget it at home
