I’m looking to head up that way tomorrow and curious on ice thickness reports for either or both of lakes. I’m also wondering what snow depth is like on the lakes up there. Guessing flood water and lots of snow. Any insight would be appreciated.
At that point - 12 inches good ice where we were. Quite a bit of snow at the edges of the lake, but only 3 to 4 inches away from shore. No flood water that I came across, but you could see where people found some earlier int he year - again closer to shore.
I did see some trucks nearer the townsite but can't tell you how well worn the path out was as I took a snowmobile out from farther north onto the lake.
I was at calling on the 30 dec. Trucks driving on at the tower and heading down toward poplar street. When i went back last week it had drifted a bit and no one had driven on. We had no shovel so we did not try driving and walked. Very little snow out on the lake. About 14 inches where we fished.
Sixteen inches of good solid ice on Wabasca , thawed out minnows and jighead just off the bottom for Walleye ,go to the point where all the shacks are ..fish anywhere behind them , semi erratic flutterd spoons for Pike ..My good dead for the year
I ended up going to North Wabasca, I swung by Sandy lake and no one had broke trail from the launch so we headed north. Very little snow on the lake, could of drove on in a car. Ice was 19" and very solid, no big heaves. Fishing was pretty slow but we managed to land some great pike. We released most and kept 3 for a couple feeds of fish. Only managed small pike on jigs and minnows. Beauty day out -4 and little to no breeze. Locals were saying it was a slow week of fishing. This lake is going C&R next year, I wonder if the netting will stop????
