So, can someone give me the Coles notes on this? Seems the Metis nation now has access to the entire province north of Red Deer.

Any reason why this can not be changed once we get a proper Gov in charge?

As with any agreement made with one government, it can change with the next government.

With the scandal coming out of the Kenney camp I'd hold off on talks of a gov change. Pizzes me right off. Are they all corrupt?

From what I see metis harvesting rights won't be decided upon by f&w anymore. The zones wont be restricted to 160km distance of ones settlement.

Instead of needing a harvesting rights paper from fish and wild life metis will need their metis card with the proper zones that they have rights to.

What's not clear is the specific area each metis person will be able to hunt. For example one metis settlement over laps into 2 zones based on the website so will those metis be able to hunt both zones?? Sonto answer your question no they dont have access to half the province. Definitely a bigger area but far from entire province.

A friend is asking how his current harvesting rights change so I can confirm tomorrow if hes restricted to one or two zones tomorrow.

And on the topic of a govt changing the rules.. these changes have been in the works for maybe 10 years. Ndp didnt start these consultations, they just happen to be the ones in power for the signing of things.

When will the coddling of this society stop.
From what I can see is 5000 Métis living on actual settlements and 100,000 more registered that can now hunt and fish year round
I am sure more will come crawling out of the woodwork with their newly appointed rights.

Wildlife is a limited resource, non renewable if exploited too severely and not managed properly. Enough said.

They won’t be managed. Long as you got a sticker on your card, fish and feathers will turn a blind eye just like with the treaty First Nations.
It’s a political mess to interfere.

They sure won’t drop the southern Alberta thing. They may as well shoot all the antelope and what’s left of any decent size mule deer as well.
When you boys are down there getting signed up see if they have any extra stickers kicking around.
Give you 50 bucks for one.

This is what I was referring to earlier, ppl pointing out the inequality but now wanting and wondering how to be included in this group, that will absolutely grow in numbers and that is where the real danger lies-

Don't blame the people. Blame the government for catering to special interests groups.

I mean any kind of group that identifies as special interest. Fn, metis, lgbqt (and whatever letters I'm missing).

I'm not a fan of unregulated hunting but I would hope that the majority of people that partake in this take what they need and will use rather then be greedy and selfish to take things they have no need for. Not many bitch about the guy that shoots 3 whitetail, 2 bear, 2 mule deer, a elk and moose then turns around and is looking to give away freezer burnt meat or uses it to feed his dogs. Not many bitch about the residency requirements where ones cousins cousin from nfld uses the same mailing address in ft Mac to get resident tags but has never stepped foot in Alberta except to hunt.

X2 -After we're done with the Metis thing, here's another one or two issues to address. They're least as big, or bigger issues as Metis hunting , except it's been regulated for a long time. What Gives ?

That’s not really that big of an issue, the government doesn’t need any facts to base a decision to change regulations for regulated harvesters. As the populations dwindle our opportunities will be taken away.

It’ll be like fishing, you will be able to buy a hunting license, you just won’t be able to harvest anything without buying a lotto ticket AFTER you first pay for your license. Then maybe you’ll win the lotto.

I’m a Métis harvester and nothing changed for me. I have no desire to run out and kill everything that moves. I will buy my sheep tag next year, jump on my horse and head into the mountains with my buddies and my pack string. Aug 25 I’ll start another sheep hunt and as always will pass on squeakers.
