Pics from work yesterday.

Took these pics of a cow moose giving birth yesterday on one of are leases.She was there for most of the day and the calf was born without any problems.The Cow had bad ticks and was so small and weak from Winter that she could not get back on her feet after giving birth to the calf.The fish cops were called in the next morning and they dispatched the cow and are going to find a home for the calf.


Pretty cool thing to see and i hope you all enjoy the pics.

Nice, its a shame about the cow though. Those ticks would be terrible to have to deal with. Makes me feel bad for the moose.

Wow, really nice pictures, thank you for posting them. They kinda sum nature up in a nutshell, don't they?

Two questions though: Are the ticks particularily harsh this year? And: Why does it seem like Moose are the most prone to getting ravaged by them?

Sweet Pics.

I witnessed the same thing last year whenI was out with a buddy spot & stalking bears. We seen a nice bear across the filed. So we started the stalk. My buddywent on the other side of a bush line. As I was walking I seen the bear darting in and out of the trees, plus something bigger in black further up. As I walked up I seen it was a cow moose giving birth. I stayed back about 30 yards. She didnt know I was there, and I had no camera or rifle as I was the spotter. No wonder the bear was roaming around the field edge. Probably waiting for an easy feed.

Happy you all liked the pics.I don't think anything could have been done to save the cow as she was in really bad shape and am pretty sure the stress of trying to move her would have killed her anyways..There are lots of bears in are area so i am happy she had a quick death rather then a bear tearing her apart.What a mudhole she picked to give birth in,looked like the calf's first taste of the world was some good old Northern Alberta mud.

Great pictures and story - thanks for sharing...and the comments in response all show the true nature of hunters...we do more for the environment and wildlife than any other segment of the general population, yet we are constantly villified in general and by the press by PETA, the Humane Society, etc. etc.

They are amazing pictures for sure, maybe a little sad but none the less amazing. On the other hand it is sad to see deer and other big game animals lying dead on the side of the road or ripped to shread by bear or wolves. Or worse yet while your out hunting you come accross a deer that had been shot and left lying in a creek with a bullit hole in the heart area or you come accross a poaching operation. Sad and wasteful.

Of course they would look better in my freezer where they would be consumed for food. Bear and wolves also consume them for food as well and that the way life goes for the animal kingdom. Nature does what it needs to do.
