I'm researching a walrus hunt right now. It sounds like a rush!

For the price I'll stick to the good old ALBERTA MULIES !!!!! That is quite a nice buck though...

Ya we don't realize how blessed we are in Alberta sometimes but check out the prices non-residents pay here and you'll be blown away. Nothing for the average Albertan to go on 20-40k worth of hunts in a year.

Yes sheep, very true.
I wonder what a mixed bag hunt in northern, Alberta would go for.

1 Elk
1 Calf moose
3 Whitetails
4 guys
I would have to think some place around $30,000 for all of us
Our cost was about $4,000 all in. (STUPID propane costs bit us in the arse)(I am still cold)
Had to repair a sled
I didnt add in the wear on the trucks.
Its a costly sport

Kansas definatly has some nice deer...both whitetails and mulies....but I prefer Alberta any day of the week.......

That price is pretty low actually for a good quality mule deer hunt, especially when you consider you're spending $8000-8500 in a few spots in Alberta.....

Ya, im with ya there, albertas the child. Weve got many world records taken in this province, with both bow, and rifle. Youd have to sit down and have a count, but theres a bunch. We are awful fortunate to be able to chase the critters we have here. Pretty diverse part of the country. Even the fishing is almost unparalleled. Once again, pretty diverse landscape. As far as hunting as a resident, im taking some relatively average game each fall, nothing outstanding yet, but like all the rest of you fellas, im seeing some spectacular stuff each year. Shes merely a matter of time. Man im getting wound up, where are the draw books boys, anyone got theirs yet??? I really dont need it, i am pretty sure all my hunts are basically on the books for the next 2 years. Gotta love the ol 999 option hey. Could go all damned day.

keep a strain on er boys.

Having guided for a few seasons, I know what a non- res. pays, Yes we are blessed. The number of species we call all hunt ( Draw or not ) and the scenery we have, its hard to beat good 'ol Alberta.

I used to travel to KS to hunt waterfowl every year when I lived in Southern Ontario. Lots of deer in KS and lots of deer hunters, too, especially from out of state. The motels I stayed at were always full of deer hunters...
You don't need a guide to hunt deer in KS. There's tons of public land, but getting permission to hunt private property (for deer hunting) can be tough, as 'leasing' hunting privledges is quite common.
In all the years I hunted in KS, I never saw a mulie that would go over 180", not even close. I'm sure they exist, but extremely RARE... I'd take ALBERTA over KS without a second thought, for mulies. No doubt about it.
Whitetails, on the other hand... Whitetail hunting in KS is managed for true trophy potential. Hunting with a rifle during the rut is not possible in most of KS... You must use a muzzleloader or bow. I have quite a few buddies down there still, and most of them have taken bucks over 180". I have one young friend who is the son of a farmer who lets me hunt his corn and milo for ducks ad pheasants... This young guy (18 or 19?) has 2 bucks mounted close to 195" net, typical... True trophys... And quite a few slightly smaller ones. All taken with muzzleloader.
If you ever get a chance or invite down there, it's a great place. Very hunter friendly, lots of cheap motels and cheap food and the people are great. Tons of waterfowl in the latter part of the season, tons of pheasants, tons of turkey, and HUGE whitetails. Most motels are just 'dots on the map' surrounded by a few hundred km's of open farm land. Get off the beaten path and you can have it all to yourself.
Lastly, I'm pretty sure that non-residents are not allowed to enter the draws for Mule deer bucks, in the very best managed areas. I think you can still buy any-species doe tags, 3 for $10 though...

I just realized that I have quite a few pictures of deer heads from farmers that have invited me into their house... here's one of them, I think it's the biggest one I saw. The kid that shot it was about 18 I think, and if memory serves me it was a 20 yard shot with a muzzleloader! Check out all his turkey beards, too. Great bunch of folks down there!

ahhh that's one I would consider booking is a walrus hunt.
Not many things more Canadian than a walrus or caribou.

Good link Jamie. I have been on a Kansas Landowner Permit waiting list for 3 yrs now. Cant wait 'til the day that Hunt comes up. Its in a very Premium zone, and the outfitter figures another 3 or so yrs to wait.

Gotta love mules....Jamie he's given ya a hard time because you posted it as Kansas Mules and not Kansas Mulies....

I'd love some llamas or goats instead for packing.....a pair of llamas or goats would be so nice for a backpack trip....I read a few articles with guys who had them trained up nicely....sounds like the ticket...
