Default Cold lake up dates 2016

Normally Cold lake does not freeze over till late Dec.
This way the ice will not get much snow on top and will freeze thicker.
Whats going on this year .
Is it still open water in the lake ?

Hate to walk out and stand on top of an air pocket and the ice is only 2 inches instead of 4 .
Going to wait for the new year.

The ice in the main lake looks like it took a big jump in the last two days ! At least a km out from shore now , but very thin , was water there on Friday , but it helps !

If the wind would just stay a way and not break it up

The warm weather and a decent wind the other day set things back a bit. French bay looked really sketchy and no one on the ice on Sunday. another week or so of these average temps and it should build up a bit of ice. Main lake was wide open again on Sunday btw

I was out on French Bay Last Saturday and Sunday as well as the Sunday before. Was on the ice with my ATV. There was a good 6-7 inches last week end.

Yes I caught but no keepers last weekend.

I dunno, 8" of clear is more than enough to walk onto safely. Not my pic, but still and that was almost a week ago with cold(ish) temps every day/night since.

Absolutely, your messing with your life! Seen people walked out two or three hundred yards from shore.

I love it when you guys give unsolicited advise. You mean to tell me you wouldn't walk or ATV on 9 inches of ice? Maybe you guys should take up knitting.

There were a couple groups out from the marina yesterday. I would say they were a good 500 - 600 yards out.
