Default Any luck this weekend? Not at Gull

I was out with a couple friends at Gull today and not even a single bite. Just wondering if anyone is having any luck anywhere. Im trying to find out where the fish are biting as my buddy has never been ice fishing and has only caught 1 small trout in his life so I want to get him hooked on pike and walleye so I have someone to go with every weekend.

Bad day for me as well. Got skunked for the first time out there today. Only saw a few small perch and 1 pike. Nothing seemed interested in the bait. It's been hit and miss. Yesterday I landed a few nice perch, 1 was 12''. The lake was super busy today too.

where are you from? easier to help if we know where you are located, and how far are you willing to travel?

I am actually in Airdrie. I heard it had been pretty slow almost anywhere. I was thinking maybe Pine lake or Newell but heard they are slow too.

best bet for catching is probably PCR and even it is a bit slower than usual. but they are still biting. A few biting at Crawling Valley today, but very slow. our group managed some pike but it took a while.

was out at gull yesterday and caught.........some sun lol! Had my two girls and father in law with managed to see 6 whites and got to see a giant burb, well I say giant but in truth have never seen one before but it sure looked big. The folks beside us caught 4 whites but all were caught before 8:30 oh well kids had a blast on the quad and sled and the weather was fantastic they were driving on at both the sunnyside and westlake road entrance snow was 18 inches deep so 4x4 only.

Caught 4 non-keeper pike on Friday. Wilsons beach on Gull.
Tire chains were needed.

Red face

Got skunked for the first time both sat and Sunday from 11am till 4:30pm at Beaumont. That was unreal trying to get my tent anchored down in the retarded wind and 6 inches of flood water. Nearly impossible. The kingfisher 3 held up good but needed all 7 pegs on one side(lost 1 down the hole) on the one side and pack slowness all around about a foot high on three sides and also tie the tent to my auger burrows 2 feet into the ice. Very stressful day, and not even a bite all day. Oh well that's fishing. I also had my 4 yr old son with me. He is quite the outdoorsman. The best fishing partner a guy could ever want. Hope things change for us all soon.

Had twenty four people at Brownlows on Sunday from 10:30am till 2pm, not one bite in the group. I did have my fishtv set up and the kids saw perch a number of times just not biting. Anyone I spoke with in the area didn't get any hits as well except one shack they landed one perch about 4 inches.

Gull lake is a bust, but with Feb around the corner I'm hoping this is the calm before the storm.

Wizard was pretty good, landed 2 jack, 1 keeper but was only there from 4 to 5 PM. Others there landed 2 to 6 jack and the odd burb. Surface water was really bad, same as all the central AB lake sounds like. Off to Cold lake this weekend.

Guess we slayed gull then. Landed 3 burbs two at 5.5 pounds one at 3, 2 perch probably 8-9 inches ( tossed them back). Had one walleye on the line but lost it due to tangling with other lines. Saw a few pike but never when i had a rig down targeting them. Saw lots of whites. Some some big perch but couldnt get them to take the hook right. The camera was a big help. Thge burbs were anywhere from the bottom to 1 foot under the ice. The walleye was maybe 3-4 under the ice. All this was in 11fow.

Was at Pine all day on sat. and landed one 2inch perch. lol. Had 4 hits on the pike rigs, couldn't hook up. didn't see anyone catch a fish anywhere on the lake. we tried several places. Other than a school of tinny perch couldn't even find anything with the camera.

Default gull lake

i went out friday 21 to gull out at brownlows found fishing a little slow at first but picked up say half dozen whites earlyer in the morning around 9 i know i slept in but got 4 nice perch 2 bigger then avarage 1 pike that could have been a keeper but threw him back lost 2 other pike and saw 2 burbot if you go out again try using a medium spoon to bring in the perch or pike and once you see the perch then pull the spoon out and drop down your perch rig worked great from me

I was at Travers on the weekend and it was pretty slow for me (although I noticed some people were doing alright). It was my first go there so I spent more time drilling holes and second guessing myself.

I'd say drive down to PCR but I got skunked there for the first time a couple weeks ago. Not a bite among the six of us there. I too brought a guy who had never caught a fish and probably dug my own grave when I near guaranteed him we'd catch...

I was thinking of going out on Thursday. From what I hear it is not a good idea to drive on the ice so I am planning to walk out, any thoughts on the best spot to do this?
How was the flood water?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

there was an inch of floodwater not terrible...Driving conditions onto Wilson's were awful... you definitely need 4x4 to even think of driving out that way..Brownlows was decent on Saturday..it was pretty packed down but there was still the odd person getting stuck. be careful out there good luck
