you saw them too! the only problem is now EVERY french person that drives a blue ford 150 will be afraid to go fishing. They will no doubt be approached, yelled at, beat up, tires slashed, and their limit of burbot be wasted right in front of them....

The burbot thing is likely in reference to the caviar of them being desireable.....so you can catch and have 10 of em and if you don't eat the flesh and you do eat the caviar you can take the eggs and waste the rest of the fish. Hence why there is a limit and they are a game fish.

Kind of like with bears you can waste the carcass but have to save the hide.

Burbut rule is probably part of the antiquated F&W policy of killing less desirable predators and having less prey around. They probably figure killing a burbot allows for more whitefish and perch...

It should be changed as burbot are highly sought after now.

They say that more than 60% of humans get their protein from fish.....

We mostly eat fish that comes from the ocean.....

We will deplete most of the ocean fish stock within the next 50 years.

Why kill the burbot???? Just cause they're ugly???

No, because Alberta is overrun with poachers, which is a psychological illness. Burbot are there so these people can feed their cravings for poaching - keeping well over their limit of ten. Once they're craving has been fulfilled, they can just waste them before they leave, and no harm done. It is part of the poacher prevention clause of the fisheries act...

I found the old thread here:

http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=56280

Pretty shocking photos there.

Seems you can waste up to the limit and no more. These guys were commercial fishermen, and were entitled to waste as many as they wanted.

that's at Slave photo. i'm certain the eagles and ravens cleaned all them fish up. not to justify anything, but those birds know exactly where the nets get pulled.

Yeah - you can see on that last photo, on the right, something's already had a good feed on that one.

Still, doesn't make any sense
