Hate to agree but they are definitely trending in the right direction. Building a solid team and some good young guys. Easy while they are on their entry level $$, gets tough when it's time for them to get paid. I don't know where they sit in the cap for space though.

Not sure what the point of the Anthenasiou trade was. We got him, gave up two second rounders and Gagne. Gagne just signed for another year with Detroit.
I’d rather have Gagne than a few of what’s on the roster currently. So now we have nothing from that trade. This deal is Chia 2.0 to me. See some nice signings throughout the league but with only 6 million in the kitty and really nothing to coax a player to come play here except for “we have McJesus and a new building” another free agency season will come and go with no notables signed. (Turris doesn’t have much left in the tank). And the beat goes on...

It was a gamble they took and obviously lost, simple as that.
Holland’s team had previously experience with the kid and figured his speed and skill would benefit the current oilers roster so they took a stab at him.
Obviously didn’t work the way they wanted so cut your losses and move on.
I didn’t mind Holland’s signings yesterday, IMO they solidified a solid 3rd line if that’s how they choose to play turris, ennis and puljujarvi.

Agree with your comments. Gagne is a much smarter player than icantseeyou. It’s another failure by the oilers brass who just can’t sign a marquee player year after year. The team will still be soft and get pushed around again with a weaker defensive core
I’m a huge oilers fan but eventually guys like mcdavid and the German will want to get out of here. So frustrating.

They gave Athanasiou a total of 9 games. Lol. That’s laughable. I’m thinking he wanted out right away and they kept his displeasure not public and scrambled to get him a trade. What NHL team gives a guy a try for only 9 games especially a guy that scored 30 goals not too long ago. Makes no sense.
puljujarvi I think will do well. One thing is if they do play again it won’t be with fans in the seats so puljujarvi won’t have to worry about getting booed out of the building and can just relax and play the game without worrying about live fan reaction which could be tough.
Side note, Just listening to Shane O’Brien and my hometown boy Scottie Upshall’s podcast right now and they are hearing rumours among the league know it alls that we won’t see NHL till March.

Wow. I really don’t get it. Never advance far in a playoff run with him.
Tyson signed not too bad.

Screwed up year, lots of teams looking for goalies, flat cap, not much extra money laying around with most teams and "if" they play sometime this winter its going to be a compressed schedule so that will figure into the goalie situation as well......

True. You know I have no idea how this Next season will work. I can’t see it working unless in a bubble and I bet most players would say no way and quit. Look at the NFL. It’s not going to last much longer with all the covid bs happening

Heard a podcast with Gary Roberts on it about Kessel. Said he’s the last guy to show up to summer training but is a beast when he trains. One of the only guys that out performs him is McD. Crazy considering he looks like a hotdog.

8 for 1 year..... wierd.
Oil have done some pretty good upgrades with a limited budget.
Klefbom out is really not good.
We’ll need another farm D to step up and the two we have up are now going to have to consistently play big boy minutes
If Bronerg and Bouchard blossom this year..... iz gonna be fun fun fun

That's bloody hilarious. Wouldn't have recognized Kane.
Well done

VERY TRUE but it is ANCIENT history. 13 of the last 14 years resulting in missed playoffs. Very little improvement evident this off-season

5 vs 1.
And this year in the real season, oil were in playoffs. And ahead of Calgary.
This is the most recent history.
This is VERY true. And RECENT.

1stly—-this is an Oilers thread NOT a Flames thread
2ndly—in the regular season the Oilers were in a playoff POSITION (but NOT in the playoffs) and were actually trending down after their uncharacteristic hot start
3rly-the Oilers did not make the playoffs this past season—this makes it 13 of the last 14 years with no playoffs for the Oilers

Those pictures of the Stanley Cup must have been taken earlier this month when the SC was awarded for the ONLY time it will ever be awarded in Rogers Place. The other clue is that the pictures were in colour and the last time the Oilers won the cup, there were no colour cameras in Edmonton Similiarly, there is very little footage of Oiler playoff hockey in High Definition (only 1 year).

Just read that Taylor Hall now doesn’t want to go to Buffalo. I’m wondering if the oilers might trade someone or two to get him. Not sure they can afford it but he would be great on any line.

You got a source for that? I’d be interested to read it.
I’ve read that Halls biding time to circle back to Edmonton next year.
When Edm has over 20mil in cap space...
