Default Emergency paddles for boat

Not a fishing question, but by law must carry a paddle in the boat. Has anyone used those telescopic aluminum/plastic type? Are they junk and better to keep the real paddle? Not like I have ever used it, but on a small lake not the end of the world. The one I have is a full size and it seems to get in the way all the time.

They are prone to breaking IMO

I have the ones that are telescopic and even though they are super convenient on the flip side if you needed them they suck. But ive stuck with them so far, probably until i ever have to use them and they break or i throw them

I bought those orange ones off amazon to fit under my seat. They are surprisingly stout and only 42 or 44” long so I don’t think you could get enough leverage to snap them. If you ever really need a paddle I don’t think anything will beat the wood ones.

Not sure what type of boat you have, but honestly 2 paddles are just about useless on a 2000lb boat, especially if you are going into even a little bit of wind. wooden ones would be a little more useful as they wouldn't break as easily.
