Default Poor fishing lately

Been spending quite a bit of time fishing the castle and crow area's lately and finding the fishing to be very disappointing!!! Taking guys out who are new to fly fishing or fishing in general. Tough to get them hooked on it when you fish all day and get skunked!! This past weekend I probably spent about 10hrs fishing and came out of it with 2 small cutties.

Has anybody had any luck lately or is it just me?

Have fished mostly small creeks and they are producing wonderfully just like always so I'm sure the bigger river are as well as long as they aren't muddy like the highwood and sheep have been this year.

Compared to previous years, it has been slow.

Castle has not been great... Crow has been brutal, too many small fish.

The flood has impacted fish populations, no doubt about it.
The smaller creeks have been fishing great however, just gotta find the right place.

X2 on Crowsnest Angler, they were very nice to me when I headed out for my first day on the Crow. Lot's of good luck around Calgary lately.

Did you say 10 hours ... lucky!! : )

hmm... Consider yourselves lucky. I get treated like garbage every time I go in there...Hence why I don't go in there anymore.

It appears to me the hatches are not as strong this season but the fishing lately has been quite good. My over all average for size this year is down in the south west but I am also down in that end in BC's south east and i do think its just me. A lot less bugs under the rocks this year with the flooding where i have checked but again it may just be me. I have talked to many friends down here who are happy with there success so far too. But WOW, every bit of moving water has changed so drastically. It really is rediscovering waters you knew like the back of your hand.... I am an optimist and believe it will be better for the fish in the long haul. Even if we lost fish, maybe we lost the weak ones like it is supposed to be. Maybe a lot of the fish that were "flushed" out were fish like cut bows. The more dead rainbows in the S.W. the better... I think.
