Default tiny little streams that nobody else fishes....

I love them. I'm on a mission now to fish all the little creeks within an hour or so of my home. I live just east of Bragg Creek, so included in my search will be the tributaries to the Elbow along highway 66. some barely look fishable... but barry mitchell's guide say that Ranger, Canyon, Ford, etc all have fish in them. I've already caught a few from that area.

sometimes you gotta go off the beaten track to find the honey holes

There are people that fish them, they just don't talk about it on a message board.

haha notice I didn't mention the names of the one's I catch them out of?

I don't mind people fishing them. as long as they catch and release and find the streams out of their own effort to go fish new places like I do

Fish on brave soldier and seek your prize.

Searching the off beaten path is very rewarding

those little streams in the backcountry away from every one are the essence of fly fishing in my opinion. small wild fish, healthy insect hatches, pristine wilderness...doesn't get much better. i fish a few in the north eastern BC area as well as a few down in central BC when I get a chance.

haha there's very little data for my area period. It DID say there's cutthroats in whiskey creek though! 0.0 I used to drive over it on my way to my (now ex) girlfriend's house. I fish SMALL creeks, but that thing darn near runs dry half the year! must just be fingerlings....

Those little streams are where the native Athabows hang out.

Some take some work getting into, but it is well worth it.

Every time I see a small creek, I immediately want to grab my gear and go, but I almost never do. I always get paranoid that I'm on private property, or that other folks will see me and thin I'm an idiot for fishing there (I have an ego complex)..... And yet, the few times when I just did it, I have always been rewarded.

Mainly, I'm never sure about the water. Is it too fast? Is it too shallow? Is it too stagnant? Is it too overgrown?

What sort of guidelines do you guys follow when looking at creeks?

any creek. doesn't really matter.... anything that doesn't run dry. Barry mitchell's alberta fishing guide is helpful as well.

People thought I was nuts on Sunday, when they saw me with a fly rod on Canyon Creek. That creek bed is dry as a bone except for one small stretch. That stretch turned up an even half dozen nice catch and release cutthroats.

I love small creeks. The difficuly I find is with access. It's not like many have provincial recreation areas or other public land on them like larger streams and rivers sometimes do.

I would agree, its definitely worth the hike.
Just got home from the shuswap area and did some exploring.
Pulled a cutt, rainbow, and brookie in the same creek, over 3-4 pools...

A creek closer to home, pulled the same trio out after hearing a huge slap on a small slow stretch on the walk out!

I'm ALWAYS down for a creek adventure... and am looking for a creek rod as well in the 3wt range!

I tried a friends sage not long ago, and its reallllly nice...

After getting my 5wt sage I don't know if I'll ever leave that brand

Got my eyes on the sage 3610-4 TXL-F

Some of those little trickles open up to Lorence' big crik.

That picture sure has the making for some good fishing. Nice bug farms all around.

I have developed quite a passion for fishing little creeks and streams off the beaten path. You can have your crowded lakes, boat launches and clowns on water craft buzzing around you. To each their own but that not what i want to purchase a fishing license for. Oh, and i do dust off the fly rod every once in a while as well for your purists!!!!

somebody was selling a remington 870 factory sawed off in the buy/sell section.... that thing would be nice for bear country. one bean bag slug as a deterrent and then a few lead ones for backup...

my uncle always used to carry a sawed off 38-55 lever

I'm a pepper spray man, I'm a fatalist, I'd rather be chewed on by a backcountry she bear than be taken out by some idiot passin' on a double solid on #22.

Small creek, small rod, small fly, hungry fish and not even a footprint to spoil the day.
