This is a PRIME PRIME PRIME example of the "Thin edge of the wedge"
Long term plan is to have their way with everything. And through things like this it will prove to a court that they are right. In order for preservation of the culture established here, these types of maneuvers must not only be stopped but be taken back about 30 years.

I honestly believe we are watching History being made and it will come at a expense.

I dunno , Brooks??
On a serious note, re-naming a city is one of the dumbest wastes of money I can think of!

But it did accomplish the purpose,of having no more murders in Hobbema, being on the news. 😂 I have not heard of a murder in Hobbema for quite a while, since they changed the name.

Of note to me though is that it is where is the Blackfoot name, and the article even mentions them taking offence to Cree words used in Alberta. This is just as much about in fighting among First Nations as it is an attack on colonization. They are laying the ground work for claiming the area ahead of any others.

Default Elbow-bending town?

All of Calgary's history has been full of people who liked to "bend the elbow" drinking. Bob White (the Eye-Opener newspaper guy) and Ralph Klein are two examples. So when I read this story, I was thinking maybe "Elbow Town" is not such a bad idea LOL!

Another point of historical fact is from the history of Fort Calgary, when it was that. Story was there was so little ever happening here that the bored NWMP guys used to shoot gophers with their rifles! It was just dead in terms of events of any kind, until the CPR established a division point here. So maybe Elbow Town fits as a town name, but that's about as interesting as naming a place "Crossroads" because two roads cross there.

It's Bob Edwards and he was one extremely funny guy. If you ever have the time, go look up his old story. My daughter wrote, produced and directed a play last summer about him. It played weekly down town on Stephans Ave.
A Bottle too many : Best told by Bob Edwards...

Jesus, did she make that funny. It was only supposed to run for one weekend but was picked up for the summer.

The Crees came from the East with the voyageurs without getting too complicated. Bad blood now and ever since.

I wonder if the Blackfoot Confederacy knows that the Stoney-Nakoda are claiming their territory?

Remember the 90s? The Stoney wanted to log. The Feds said no, rules and procedures have not been followed. Stoney went ahead and logged anyway with a lot of the money going to the Chief and her relatives.

The band sued the Federal government saying that the Feds hadn't protected the forest. TFF. A lot of the cuts are visible from highway 1, although reforestation is occurring.

It's not just Canada, some people in South Africa want to rename East London "Buffalo City". No historical context i am aware of. East London sounds too white i guess.
