Be careful fishing any of the outflow areas....the ice is likely not thick enough in those spots. I drove by there on Friday and near the North culvert the ice was quite dark indicating it was thin and/or had water on top of it....I would suggest walking out 20yrds from the boat launch and drilling a pilot hole to determine thickness.

Exactly canal on north side was open last weekend.
Drilled test holes last Sunday it was 2" out from boat launch.
Fished for 1/2 hour this Saturday. Was 4-5" and dirty.
I would wait a bit for the water to clear and ice to thicken.
I only went to test out my new flatfish 767.

Only about 3-4 of snow.
Was very fluffy on Sunday.
Not sure with today's warm weather.
Since I'm only 15 mins from coal, maybe I'll provide weekly ice conditions.
I'm going to go again sat I think.

What he saw was flood water.
Today the flood water or melted snow was mostly frozen.
There is 6-8" of ice.
About 2" of it white the rest black.

Drilled about 10 holes today.

With the warm weather tomorrow, I expect the remainder of the snow to melt and it'll be a solid 10" by mid week. About half the snow that was there from last week is melted.

Lots of slush of melted snow today.
Still about 5-6" of ice but some spots had 2-3 of slush/water on it.
Also to note near the culvert had open water again, so be cautious.

Will update again next week.

I think saw you out there today...were you to the far North? Drove by on my way home hunting for the morning and I was going to stop in....saw the open water by the culverts too....I think I will wait a bit longer before I go out there. Thanks for the update on ice!

I've only fished for a total of about 1 hrs worth.
Mostly drilling holes and setting up my tent.

Haven't caught or seen any fish yet.
May e this saturday I'll get some decent fishing time in.

I've head that middle just out from the first point on the north side is decent.
Later in the year I may try the south side near the pipestone.

Some nut job had a vehicle on the ice today.
Not sure how far he went but I only saw tire tracks heading out From the boat launch.
None coming back???

The threads looked like a car and not quad or truck.
Ballsy.

No time to fish today just went out to check ice thickness.
8" no slush or water, only about 1" of snow.
Going to head out to fish in the am.
If you see a Eskimo fatfish 767 then say hello.

Went out for a couple of hours today ice is about 8-9"
Culvert is still open. Not sure when that are freezes over, so stay away.

Does anyone know how the fishing is north of 616?

Saw some pike but they not really active.
Just looked at my look and swam away.

Maybe next time.
