Default Ice on snares

Maybe this has been covered before , but with last nights freezing rain , how badly does it effect snares ,? Guess I'll just have to check an see if they are froze tight , I have no experience with this . Thanx .

Your locks will be froze for sure. It makes them useless that's for sure

I'm due to adjust the height of all my snares due to the snow that we got so I'm going to make sure that the cable and locks are free of ice at the same time. This time I'm going to put a few drops of glycerin on the lock as a preventative measure and see how that works.

I've had to unlock mine twice this year ! Know for sure I missed 2 as they backed out and the snare was laying there wide open and frozen ! Grrrr ! The second time I had to tap the lock on the side with my cable cutters to get them loose and moving again ! Good luck

I use the Cam locks with teeth and they suck with freeze thaw. I missed 6 lynx 2 checks ago because of them being frozen and I had a bunch froze up again this time around. Not sure what the answer is but let me know if you find out. I was thinking of finding a lock that won't freeze up. Is there one out there?
Also might add glycerin or something as well to keep it from locking up

Tomcat recommended micro locks to me for freeze thaw conditions as it has no moving parts. He may be able to provide further insight.

Checked 8 sets near home and maybe I just got lucky ,but none were froze Now if the distant ones are alright I may have some dogs tomorrow when I check . These here were all in dense brush so that might have helped .I'm real surprised cause the sidewalk was like a skating rink .

The gycerin might slow down the lock. Experiment before you put it on all your snares.

Rain and snow are just make work projects to keep you busy while snaring.

Would a little bit of wd-40 be too much scent? It is a water repellant, so there is nothing to freeze....

Marty are there any types of locks that are less likely to freeze? Slims or Micro's maybe?

WD40 has whale oil in it so it would be very aromatic.
