Island Lake

Hello! I was wondering if any AO members might be able to give me an ice update on Island Lake in the Athabasca area?
How thick is the ice and is it still driveable for a half ton truck?
I would like to try for some of those BIG whites that won,t bite.

Caught some decent perch out of there this year, never realized it even had whites, never seen any.

I was just down the road at Chain on the family day weekend. 18 inches of solid ice there but the ice sure moaned and groaned when a truck drove by. Kinda eerie in the tent There were trucks on the ice at Island when we drove by on the highway last Sunday. Good luck.

My neighbour is Metis and has been netting there. Getting some nice sized ones up to about 7 lbs. He's driving a 3/4 ton on there

Thanks for the replies guys. I have seen some huge ones there while fishing for perch but can,t get them to bite.
This time of year and into March the whites will start to eat minnows so maybe that's the way to go.
Thanks again. By the way,would the perch be deep or shallow this time of year?

I fish Island a fair bit, I usually have success in for them 4 to 8 FOW, around the islands. PM me is you would like more details.
