How do you de bone a laker ?
I find it easy to remove all the bones on a walleye and a pike , but when it comes to Lakers it not that easy
If I don't cut them into steaks I will fillet a laker then pull the lateral bones out with needle nose pliers.
Any one have a better way of removing all the bones from a Laker..

X2,,,,,,,,,,,,the bones can be felt with your fingers and run from the front of the fillet (thick end) back towards the tail about 3/4 of the way.

If walleye are so much easier for you how do you remove the pin bones on them?
Lake trout have the same bone structure as a walleye, like others above I just cut the strip of pin bones out.

You don't, the legal size is not worth eating unless you smoke it, ...opening a can of worms eh?If you must cut
the belly fat off and fillet like a walleye.

This is what I do for trout - my kids hate bones - so I end up filleting this way and then removing the pin bone strip the exact same way as you would on a walleye.
Keep in mind the angle of the pin bones is different in a trout versus a walleye. On a walleye you can cut straight down 90 degrees with the fillet skin side down - on a trout the angle is closer to 70 degrees.
Other than that - I do them the same way and have zero bones and waste very very little meat.

I agree a laker that size the smoker is the way to go. Get rid of belly fat leave on skin but slit it and smoke away.

I prefer the forceps over pliers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeiOYtDk9Jw
Of course you could always buy your self an electric pin bone remover.

Next time you catch a keeper john, just bring it over to my place and I'll show you how it's done. I'll even have the barbie fired up.

On a bigger laker - I use pliers to remove the pin bones - they are pretty easy to remove by running your finger down to feel them and a few minutes of pulling and you are set - pretty much turns out like a store bought salmon fillet.
