Default Cabelas Customer Service

Last April I picked up one of their flyrod-reel-case packages that had had decent reviews and i thought it would suit my first time fly rod ownership. Only used it four times last year, took it out again last week and within 30 minutes the tip snapped off!

I managed to find the reciept and noted it had a 1 yr warranty as per their website, but I went over to them anyhow hoping they could help me out with warranty.

I told the lady the timeline of events and I asked if I could just get the end section replaced...she said "NO"...but you can go grab another one and we will do an exchange...crap I was happy!

I wandered over, found the replacement and noted that it was now $50 cheaper...had to pull it out and make sure it was the same, it was and I attributed the difference to a ten cent lower loonie last spring..oh well.

Went back to customer service and mentioned the price difference and she told me I was going to get the difference back as well as a brand new rod.

So by catching nothing and just breaking my rod I was $50 ahead of the game!

Service like that is why they were the biggest outdoor store in the business, until Bass Pro bought them.

I generally hit up Cabelas first before Bass Pro when I need something. The service there is 100 times better I've found. Bass pro is a last resort if I can't find what I need at Cab's. Last time I went into the fly shop section at Bass pro and asked the employee a question about a Simms vest in a different size..he wouldn't give me the time of day. His convo with another employee there was too important I suppose. Their loss.. ended up at Cabelas again in the end and dropped my 300 bucks there instead.

I guess now it doesn't much matter to Bass Pro if they own Cabelas. Hopefully the service at Cabelas doesn't go down now due to it.

I had little expectations about their service when i ordered a rod online to pick up at the cabela store. When i opened the tube in the car, it was empty! Went back in the store and they were super apologetic, didn't question my honesty, and immediately chased all the stores in the country to find the last one in stock in the ottawa store. When it arrived, the rod was broken (true story), so the staff asked me to pick any rod of similar value in the shop, even up to 50$ above the price!
Best customer service i've ever experienced in a big box shop.

Ive never had a problem at Basspro, whole sale, or cabelas as far as customer service goes. The fishing hole in Calgary has incredible customer service. Every time i go in there im amazed at the employees product knowledge. They arent perfect, im sure, but its on whole other level than those big box places.

For sure, the dedicated fly shops have a much better knowledge, and products. They know what they're talking about and can really advise you.
But as far as big box store, Cabela's had a really good customer service, not talking about knowledge or products.
