Default Best tasting fish

The other thread has inspired this one. What's your favorite tasting fish?

The very best fish I've had was at my buddies sushi restaurant, Takami (I think that's how it's spelled) just off argyll and 105st. It was the Yellowtail sashimi, second favorite was some mahi mahi my neighbor had barbecued.

Those are two fish feeds that really stick out. There are the walleye fry's I used to have when I guided in northern Saskatchewan, fresh crab, halibut, salmon, and ling cod, and of course the yelloweye I caught that my sister cooked about 3 or four nights in a row, all different ways.

To be fair, no shellfish, just finned ones.

My top two are Yellowtail sashimi and BBQ'd mahi mahi

I love our white fleshed fish in Alberta, walleye, perch and pike. A store bought fish that I really, really like is Mahi Mahi. The flesh is almost sweet.

Sashimi Blue-finned Trevally is pretty damned good.
Coral / Coronation trout with caper sauce is just amazing.
Spanish mackerel steaks are great for when you don't want a "fishy" fish.
Flathead (Aussie, not the catfish) is great with nothing to overpower the flavor.
Mangrove jack are in my top ten for sure.
Atlantic salmon is great with the skin left on then cooked low and slow so it goes crispy.

Of all the fish I have eaten, after catching, cleaning and cooking myself, I would have to say

most favorite to least
1-Dungeness crab cooked instantly out of the trap! I could eat them until I get dizzy
2-halibut-truly the chicken of the sea, you can make them taste like anything
3-rock cod- a truly 'delicate' fish, amazing./ling tie (Nigel caught the ling, only I have ever had)
4-coho
5-spring
6-walleye used to be my #1 until I went ocean fishing. Damn you Jamie!!!
7-perch- been forever since I had a good feed, have to try again sometime
8-pike
9-brookie
10-rainbow
11-lake trout

I am a white flesh guy. Walleye and perch are my favourite here. Rockfish at the coast was great and better then salmon imo although I do like a good bbqed or smoked salmon every once in a while.

The key is the cooking method and it is the main reason I cant really name just one species. I have had some mediocre fish species cooked well and enjoyed them a lot. Heck I had one fish in a thai restaurant that I was very impressed with so asked what it was. Basa lol... Vietnamese farmed catfish but was prepared perfectly (well seasoned and deep fried with great sauce and veggies).

Heck cooked right lake trout probably even turns out half decently lol .

I am not a good enough chef to pull off those species myself though hence why I prefer the nice white flesh that cooks up great simply pan fried with a bit of seasoning and coating.

All you can eat salmon sashimi and tuna. Hands down. Walleye is delicious too but only had it once (I didn't catch it) and at this rate prolly won't have it again anytime soon, $27 for all you can eat sashimi seems like a better deal.

I love Pacific salmon. And Arctic char is my favourite by far. For white flesh, hands down lingcod. Swordfish is my favourite big-game fish - it's almost like steak. I had wolf eel in Iceland that was amazing as well.
I don't eat tuna (bluefin) due to the fact of their conservation status. And rainbow trout from potholes are something I avoid, as well as talapia and basa.

The best fish I have had was my uncle frying either Walleye, Pike or Perch in a cast iron pan shore lunch style from the freshly caught that afternoon. So good.

My cousins fish the coast in their own rig regularly and the smoked Salmon they have made up here up is amazing.

Steel head, Salmon or Rainbow for me. More important than the species is where it came from imo. I've found that to be true with any meat.

Saying your'e a "white meat guy" is like saying you don't really like fish. Basically the blander or least fish tasting fish are the best...??? Maybe I'm way of on that....

Swordfish from Niko's on 38 Oahu- omg how awesome! Best fish on the planet.
I called him last year to get his swordfish white wine sauce recipe, spent an hour and a half on it and buggered it in the last 2 minutes by adding cheese. All you could taste was cheese.
