Default Robin, Ben, GREAT MEETING YOU!!!

I had the pleasure to meet up with fellow AOers Robin and Ben at Calling Lake on Sunday.

First time meeting these guys, and it was an absolute pleasure.

I took them across the lake to a spot that another party of 8 partiers had been fishing and drinking with good success on both fronts. A lot of roads paid for by that bunch last weekend!!

Not wanting to crowd the partiers, who for some reason were not stirring on Sunday morning, we started cutting holes trying to locate the hump. After a lot of deep water, we finally got on top of it. The partiers were curiously silent until about 10 AM???

Wind was blowing, it was cloudy, and not perch weather, but Ben is the perch whisperer, and iced 4 11 inchers in a row, and then it shut down. This did not stop the young fellow, and he truly is afflicted with fishing. No matter how windy and cold, he was at it bare hands and all.

Walleye were reasonably cooperative, but what was impressive was the number of walleye in the 8 - 15 inch range. Lots of recruitment for the future, which was very positive.

Look forward to more adventures with Robin and Ben in the future!!!

Calvin,

There is a road access near the Tower north of the fire fighting base.

You will see a big log cabin with triple garage. the road goes down beside Mike Cardinal's old Cabin (I think he did finally sell it???)

Boulders have now been moved from the access points.

There is a heave near shore that last week was a bit on the tall side for a 3/4 4 x 4, almost scraping the frame it was so steep. I suspect it may be even bigger now. Trouble is, no way around it as it runs parallel to shore for a mile at least. small trucks and SUVs will have trouble unless someone chain saws it down.

I do not plan to be out this weekend with - 20 C, but there are projects I could do on the Cabin I suppose.

I will check it out and see how bad it has got.

You guys have me wanting to hit it. I've been meaning to get out there for what seems like a year but always have "other stuff" get in the way.

Default Some pictures from Calling

The keepers:

The Walleye got bigger as the evening rolled around:

The weapon of choice was a 1/8th ounce Kastmaster, the new ones that come with a rattle in them and a holographic baitfish image on the one side. Tipped with a small piece of minnow. They wanted to chase it vertically, deadsticks didn't get hit at all hardly.

Thanks pal. If it gets a bit nicer we just go out and do it old school and load up a sled and strap on some snowshoes. Thanks and like you said, his smile is huge. Good to see.

Great thread.
I've made a few friends on this site. I get a kick out of telling people "we met online". The reactions are priceless.

Agreed, I have met some great people on this site.

Timid, Rubberboots, Sport Man, iYearn, Drewski Canuck have all been great people and I'm glad I've met them personally and had a chance to fish with most of them. I have yet to have a single bad experience!
