Default Wed, 6 pm, June 1, 2011 Perch Netting at Lake Sundance

I could use 3 guys to help me pull the trap if they wanted to split the perch.

Please let me know. Given the decline in perch catch I will likely pull the trap unless we find a school of tasty perch have migrated in. In that case I will move the traps different locations.

Cheers

Sun

I'd be able to make it Thursday if that works for others.

I could probably change to Thursday if another couple of guys wanted to see netting first hand. As Ray would probably attest...it is not hard work...

Ray, Sling, Ogre and Orv.

Bring wading sandles and shorts...one person with chest waders if possible. Bags/buckets to take any perch home with.

Wish us luck. Maybe last netting of the year. I have been surprised before with low count one day than a massive count the next.

Hi Sundance,
"the last netting of the year?" I am just wondering if the numbers are down?

As noted to Chub...I suspect so without crunching the numbers and doing a comparison over previous years.

I suspect we can lower the population to a threshold level and angling and 2-4 weeks of Spring netting can keep it there. Then the bug population stays high and the minnow population stays high and growth rates of perch will get excellent and trout should get enough food to sustain them with a chance of growth.

in 2 months of netting in 2009 we caught ~ 32000

in 1 month of netting in 2010 we caught ~ 7000

So far in 3 weeks of netting in 2011 we caught about 5700...but much, much larger on average than last year.

Only 44 perch caught today. The nets were pulled until a more favorable netting time comes...either if a big perch school is seen this Summer or next Spring before spawning.

Thanks all and happy fishing this Summer!
