Default Athapap

Fished 3 days on the big lake. Landed 131 trout , largest two measured in at 40 inches each. They were caught on the first day , then no big fish for the next two days . Guides have only got a couple of bigger lakers , but they are there , they just need to EAT.

Great to hear you had a good trip! I fished during may long and it seemed quite slow for me, But I caught around 25 trout the whole weekend so it wasnt a big downer.
Did you go through Bakers Narrows Lodge for guiding, or Paradise lodge??

Some pics would be wicked

131 trout in 3 days is great. Missed going up there this year. What depth were you catching them at? Last year we were catching in the 65-75 foot range.

We generally don't go any shallower than 85 ft. We were in 90ft for the 3 days. Usually get 2 fish a day that are 40 inch plus , but only got the 2 on the first day this year.

Default Fishing Athapap

Hi,
Me and a buddy are going to Athapap next week. We are staying at Bakers Narrows lodge and will get a guide to take us out the first day. What do you use to get the bigger Lakers? And where on the lake do you fish for them. When talking with people at the lodge they were saying the walleyes aren't as abundant as they used to be but you still get some big ones. What do you use for them?
Went to Cranberry Portage last summer and my buddy caught a nice Master Walleye and we both caught a few nice lakers in Second Cranberry but it was the end of July and fishing was slow.
Sounds like you have been to Athapap quite a bit, I am really looking forward to it.
Thanks for any info,
L
