Beg borrow or steal a bigger boat.

There are a lot of bays that are less rough but the weather can change in a big hurry on you and an electric motor is not nearly enough if it gets rough out there.

sure fish when it's calm and you'll be fine............don't worry, alberta thunderstorms will give you lots of warning to wynd up your minn kota and safely get back to shore in your 10'. your safest bet would be to launch at faust and keep it cool in the bay. there'll be plenty of eyes there still at the time you're planning your trip. if you can, sneak out to the west out of the bay there's some nice structure close and if a storm blows up your not far from the cover off the main lake. slave can become an absolute monster in a heartbeat, pounding the crap out of rigs made to handle big waters. be smart.

Sorry but with only an electric on that boat, i wouldnt leave the harbour. We have fished that lake alot and u could get hurt real bad there with that rig.
Two years ago we lost a fellow fisher on that lake, they flipped a 21 ft boat over in 8ft plus waves. When we left the harbour the lake was like glass and in 15 min we had huge waves, love the lake but can be one of the worst.

fish the east end of the lake. you can fish the river if its too windy and if it calms down you don't have to venture out far to hit deep enough water to catch fish.

yep....that boat aint made for that lake

you could wait till the lake calms down 100% and get in a few days fishing between now and 2012 or just be smart and fish from shore or find a bigger boat.

things happen fast on the big water and that minn kota wont get you outta dodge in time.

Take heed the caution above.....very important. Especially having never been there before. That lake can turn literally in an instant. When they say stay close to shore.....like casting distance if you only have an electric.

Would you use a pen knife to take down a charging water buffalo?

Default upgarde your motor at least

I would dump the idea of the electric motor and find a 4-5 hp outboard at least!!!

For a few years I had a 12 ft aluminum with a 9 HP on it and I have fished that lake many years ( most of my life ), and there were definatly a few sketchy times, to say the least. The guys are right - the lake can be a monster.

I've since updated to a 16 foot tri - hull with a 60 HP Johnson - feel a bit better!

Get out there, though, if you can get a bigger boat. When the walleye bite is on, its like nothing else!

Just go to Shaw,s Point on West end and fish out front of the Marina I have done it 3 or 4 years for a week end June ...you will have some days you can.t get on but fish from shore at the Marina if you don,t mind catching a 5 or 6 lber walleye or a 15 lb pike .. lots of 2 to 4 lbers in boat and a chance at a 10 # plus or a 20 lb pike .. ps i had my kids in life jackets and Grandparents and had a electric motor and a 12ft boat.. a little common sense goes a long way.. have fun ..if you want bigger Walleye use Raps etc .. jigs tip with minnow for fish.. Hope this helps .. David ... ps the Walleye are staging as they come out of river so they are at Shaws till first week of July then disperse

I have fished that lake from a 12ft aluminum boat. I fished the upwind side of the lake which was at Shaws Point. I stuck close to the boat launch and if enough patience is used, you can anchor and bait the walleye in at anytime of the year. Just twitch the lure on the bottom and it usually seems to draw the walleye in. I hear that the shaws point area opens late, so I would check the regulations closely to make sure that, that area of the lake is open for when you plan to head up there.
