Default Bow river Pike in Calgary

Just curious....The 2nd largest pike I have landed was a 22lb pike which I pulled out of the Bow river in Edworthy Park Edmonton back in 93. I was spin casting for trout, hooked a 10" or so rainbow, then Wham! My 6lb ultra light rod was put to the test. I had to jump in the river up to my chest at times to chase this thing down stream until it found a pool it liked. Took me 20 minutes to land it and almost hypothermia (early june).....Anyway seeing all these great bow river pics reminds of that evening so I was curious if people are seeing much pike activity?

I was fishing the bow where the highwood comes in for trout and a decent pike 8lbs or so snapped me off almost instantly as i had no leader and only
6lb test. I went to bowness park didnt catch anything but i could see a fairly large pike just sittin around in the shallows. So they're in there.

JR caught one on a stretch last season south of the city. we thought he had another monster brown on till we finally got a glimpse, nope PIKE. kinda cool, but the monster brown we were hoping for would have been way cooler.

I caught one at Policeman's, beginning of March this year. Same deal, thought it was a big brown until I landed it, then I sat there dumbfounded, didn't think there were pike in this section of the Bow.

Cool....thanks for the responses. That was definitely one of my most memorable fishing escapades. I was fortunate that I was jigging for walleye last time out with that rod and didn't bother taking off my leader or it would have been all over. Like others mentioned I also thought it was a monster brown at first....but monster pike was cool to. Btw being much younger at the time, and without handy picture phones...I decided to keep that one, and has it turned out it was one of the tastiest pike ever...I lived in the Calgary area for the next 3 years and never did see another.

Probably tasted so good because it was caught from a great fishery with some nice cold flowing water, pike could get washed into the bow river through lakes and other rivers that overflow come heavy rains and snow i am guessing.

Read my mind. Gonna have to go up north to see this phenom.

I think most the pike in the Bow are downstream of Carsland.
