I know a guy who was there on the weekend, he said there was about 11" or so. Also said some crazy bugger were driving way out to deeper water. Made me pucker just thinking about it...

i haven't been to garnet yet, but theres 12 to 14" out past 2nd point and off prov park point. Seen a vehicle way out there though. I'd be nervous driving way out there. The ice was cracking lke crazy yesterday. You could go on at French bay launch and nestle in with the 20 or so vehicles out there. Same ice thickness there but fish seem to be biting better there. Good Luck

I was out on the 29th past the first point past the Marina. 11 inches of average ice depth. Had an armada of vehicles pass me on the sled and setup way out in 200 FOW. Personally I thought they were idiots for doing it. You wouldn't catch me doing it. The ice moved a lot as they drove by.

Warm weather the past few days melted all the snow and its a slush mess.. wouldn't touch it with a truck. Thickness is variable on the big basin to 6"

Ok. Next to no snow , some rough ice , thickness is 14 inches off the point at Garnet. Used tape measure. There are no truck tracks yet , only quad and sled. Fished 830 till 430. I landed 21 trout , partner got 9. total of 30 trout with 11 over. Biggest was 90cm. 123ft. Most caught right on bottom using white tube and part of a smelt. Some caught 3ft below the ice. It was awesome. New personal best for most trout through the ice !

No , I use my Hds 8. Works great. Used a white tube and half a smelt , no stinger. Yes , barbless ! pounded bottom 3-4 times then held a tight line with jig right on the bottom and waited for a pickup. It usually came quickly. Usually a gentle tap tap or just slack line suddenly. There were alot of fish just below the ice. Actually saw one swim by , reeled to surface , my swivel was above the ice when the fish hit , no reeling , just pull it out. 80cm !

Have you fished French Bay this year? And if so, where have you entered the Lake to reach French Bay at the French Bay Provincial Park close to the Ski Hill?

Just a heads up, might see trucks starting to cross but ice thickness is extremely variable, drilled a few test holes and ice anywhere from 8" to 18" of good ice. Wouldn't catch me crossing yet. French is still fishing awesome though.

Just came back last night. 8" to 12" on the north shore. Nobody driving out on this end of the lake. It was slow but we managed to catch a few.

Ice sure was cracking when ever a truck drove past the tent ,and would get water movement in the ice hole from the wave.

Fishing has been hot, but alas', the amount of retreads I have seen ripping around in their super duties over ice heaves, pulling up to 3 other vehicles all within a small area of ice, and doing 100 km/hr on 8"-10" of ice has all the makings for Darwins theory to take affect!

Best so far was 40 lakers in 2 hrs and prob just as many lost. Find the Cisco and you find the fish...

Jig rarely made it to the bottom. Most of the time the lakers were smoking it on the way down. Between my partner and I we always had one on the line and numerious double headers. It was like damn perch fishing, as soon as one spit the hook another one smoked it.

Not many pics but here is what I got.

Took the father in law out yesterday. Guy never fishes, took him a while to get the hook set down but he managed to land half a dozen. Can't beat the weather.

(fish was released...tried explaining they need gills to breath to the father in law!!)
