Default Lake Minnewanka in May long weekend

I’m going camping in Banff in May long weekend and want to fish in Minnewanka, I’m thinking to charter a boat but it is pricey paying just by myself...If anyone is interested to share please pm me...

Have fun there.

Default Still Frozen

Flew over the east end of Minnewanka yesterday in a helicopter and it was still frozen. There also seemed to be a fair amount of snow in the surrounding mountians so its probably a fair bit colder up that way. The majority of Ghost Reservoir was also frozen.....could see a bunch of unhappy Kayakers in the parking lot with boats still strapped to thier roofs.

Very curious how you will make out, hoping to get the boat there myself this year. Good luck.

Ya I would say good luck on thr ice being off. I've seen ice untill mid june on that lake. I would make some calls if I were you to make sure your not disappointed. You can also rent some 16 foot tinnies from the marina there as well if u don't want to pay the crazy charter fees.

Flew the whole lake 3 weeks ago. TONS of snow in the mountains still.

We're staying out at Bow Valley Campground this week (Have the entire place to ourselves it seems). Lots of snow in the Bow Valley still. Will be in Banff for work on Wednesday, I imagine there still a ton of snow there too.

IF you want a good deal and fish with a guy whos really dialed in on the lake call Troy. He works for Banff taxi and guides a bit on the side. He knows the lake well and will put you on fish. If you try and fish it without knowing what your doing you wont catch anything...

Perhaps I should have been serious when I was saying for everyone to bring their ice gear to minnewanka on the long weekend.

Lake Minnewanka is visible from the following webcam that updates in real time. It's the obvious, large lake next to Cascade mountain in the center of the image. Double click on it to see it larger. You can check the webcam on a clear day just before the long weekend and you'll have an rough idea of the ice conditions. If I were a gambling man, I would bet it's still frozen over this year.

Hope that helps.

Bottomline is you would have to check to see if the sup in BNP has issued a notice...

34. (1) Every person who engages in ice fishing in park waters shall keep any fish, offal, refuse and deleterious substances in containers suitable for their temporary storage and shall remove the containers at the end of each day of fishing from any area in which the person has been fishing.

(2) Where, in any park waters, ice conditions are unsafe for ice-fishing, a superintendent may, by notice in writing, prohibit ice-fishing in any such waters.

(3) Every notice issued pursuant to subsection (2) shall contain a description of the park waters in respect of which the notice is issued and shall be posted by the superintendent in a conspicuous place in the park.

(4) Where a notice is issued pursuant to subsection (2), no person shall ice-fish in any park waters described in that notice.
