Looking for a guide for a documentary

Hi everyone

Here goes my first post.
I am making a documentary on invasive species in Alberta. I was hoping someone on here could help me find a guide near Calgary that would be willing to let me tag along on a wild boar hunt to collect some footage.

I don't know about Southern Alberta maybe they're easier to hunt but they're pretty tough animals to hunt in the wild in Northern Alberta good luck

If you’re doing a documentary on invasive species, the last one I would try and get footage of is a wild boar in alberta. There’s a lot of other ones that would be a better choice and that are doing far more damage than wild boars

I really am open to suggestions if you could point me in a direction. I chose the wild boar because I thought it would make for the most interesting footage.

Wild boars are essentially non existant
The wild horse problem would be a good one
Same with the Prussian carp

I must admit I'm not much of an outdoorsman. Would there be an easy way for me to tell the difference between feral horses and domesticated ones?

As for the Prussian carp, while it would make a good talking point in the doc I need something that is easier to film with the resources I currently have. I think I have to look at land animals so that I can capture their environmental impact on camera (crop destruction, etc.).

There is also the two legged cougar that I just heard this morning on the radio are invading Home Depot lumber aisles looking for unsuspecting prey. Maybe someone doing some home renovations would let you tag along?

Well invasive species would be a good topic to bring to light. In my opinion I'd love to see one done on over predation and the effects on the wildlife as it may currently be one of the biggest issues faced by wildlife in the province..

I always carry wine when I go there. If cornered pull out the wine, make sure the cougar sees it and set it down between you. Slowly back out, don't turn your back, but most times you will get out without incident.

How about the honeybee?

I believe there would be a few more honeybees than horses and hogs put together.

I think this might be one that most people wouldn't want to get rid of.

Try talking to local farmers to get their opinions on them and their uses. They are a huge benefit to crop production.

Could add a long list of common invasives that the government stocks every year for fish as well

Rainbow, browns, tigers, and brook trout to start

The funny thing is we pick and choose what invasive species are good or bad lol

Whitetailed deer are native to Alberta.

Perhaps what you are misconstruing is the recent range expansion of this species due to human activities when compared to pre-1900..
And this perspective is only applicable when limited to a specific timeline.
Go back farther than written history and Whitetails at times ranged all over Alberta.

It is believed that Whitetailed deer evolved from Blacktailed deer.
Blacktailed deer did not inhabit the plains or east to the Atlantic.
So unless Aliens or Indians transplanted Whitetails to the east coast, these deer are Native to almost all of North America.

Whitetailed deer range expansion and contraction can be taken as yet another example of how Nature is always in constant flux, that "Balance" in Nature is a false human construct typically derived from a desire to feel good.

Contact an outfitter and go to South Texas. You started being interested in hogs. Guys like Pete Ray out of Pearsall.Tx can give you a good kick start on your project. He was Fish & Wildlife for 30 years and has being an outfitter for quite a while. The word invasive hits hard there. Golf courses in San Antonio have had greens tore up and lots of crop damage. He could put you in a blind in the buck brush country and you could observe them and would get lots of good footage. If your project concerns Canada only disregard.
