$47.20 for a moose tag.
I went and bought my moose tag today. Holy jumpin, a big whooping $47.20. If you say it fast it don't seem to smart as much. I don't think I should pay until I shoot one. No wonder the whiteman is upset with the Indians. I would be to.

It's under $50 and I'm guessing if it's moose, more then one person is usually going. Split the tag and it ends up being cheaper then a couple beers at the pub. And with all the hiking and scouting, it's cheaper then a couple day passes to the gym.

I'd pay 200$ per tag if it meant I could hunt

That reality might be sooner than you think I am afraid.

So if I draw a moose tag, and none of my friends do. I have to hunt alone? No one can come help me deal with a giant dead moose? I can't share with them my meat?
Edit: I meant share the cost of the tag. Not share the ability to shoot a moose.

What's an 18 hole round of golf running these days. Cost of a decent bag of Pings vs a Tikka 3006?

It is enough in my opinion and budget to realize, but not so much that I'm not still grateful too live in Alberta.
Check out the cost of elk tags in some of the states!

Don't know I'm not old enough for golf.
Maybe it's been that long since I've had a moose tag but it seems to have doubled in price.

If they don't have a license they can not assist you in anyway with the hunt.

They can't spot, pack out, or do anything?
Only thing they can't do is push bush or shoot the animal.

What happened to the partner tag, last I looked it was still available, that way either hunter can actually shoot the moose and the guy with the licence has to tag it, 2 hunters 1 moose tag

Then they have a license and can even shoot the moose then. If they have no license they can't spot or call or push bush or assist in anyway.

Sure it might make for less hunters. Cutting back on WT Sup tags made for less hunters in the wmu I hunt in.
Or the NDP may outlaw certain weapons or animals & that mat cut back on hunters as well.

I think it's a bargain, all things considered. 3 some odd bucks for a few years to build priority and then 50 bucks for the tag when it's time to hunt. Pretty cheap really.
If it's all about economics, buying some antlerless deer tags and a half tank gas may be something to consider.

That's dirt cheap! Montana's moose tag is 125$ IF you get drawn for the tag. Honestly even at 125$ that's cheap considering. Even 250$ I'd be ok with, Conservation has got to cost something and like everything else that cost keeps rising. Funny how people are so quick to complain about game wardens not doing anything, yet they seem to expect them to do it with gear and for compensation that was low 20 years ago.

The problem with the cost of tags is not conservation. It's the fact most of the money goes to the licence provider it used to be IBM. IIRC. Not the computer company another entity. Hunting in North America helped settlers survive it's part of our heritage. 47.20 might not seem like much but add in win cards hunters ed course costs pal courses. Draw applications everyone has there hand in your pocket. It's not a way of life anymore it's all gone commercial. Many family's used to put food on there plates this way. Lots aren't due to the prohibitive costs. Heck I have 2 nephews a wife and my tags to buy. That adds up quick. One day I will be buying tags for my 4 kids. Add up all those things. Pretty expensive to go enjoy a pastime that we did for a fraction of the cost even 10 years ago. Hunting was once a thing for only nobility. Watch what you wish for.
