The itch
I've been noticing a lot of coyote sign lately and am starting to get excited to catch a few coyotes.
I'm going to try again for my first foothold coyote this year. I'll start earlier though to try avoiding some of the pitfalls of winter foot holds.
Anybody else getting the trapping itch?

It doesn't even subside a little lol? By the end of March I don't want to even think about skinning another animal. It's definitely addicting though and I do spend a fair bit of time thinking about trapping.

Just finishing insulating a new 20x24 skinning shed, gonna finish walls next week. Purchased another dozen #3 soft catches and finished up 8 dozen snares. I can hardly wait!!

Nope . I would snare year round if hides were good , something addicting about waiting and wondering what the next set will hold . Then again Im not the one doing the dirty work in the skinning shop after .

Good stuff! I wasn't sure what my goal for Fall rats would be until reading the wild fur update that gibb posted. I think that I'll trap a reasonable amount of them the month of October. I won't get rich but I really enjoy it.

Well boys no amount of Gold Bond can help me now. Just finished my new fur shed over the last couple days. I'll post some pics of the finished product later tonight. Going to be really nice not being in the garage for the first time ever, my trucks are going to love me for it. Got snares to make and tackle to tune but should be all ready to roll for November.
How is everyone else making out with their prep work?

Will be setting up mini farm next Saturday as it is super close and it's all about protecting someone's lively hood and I love foot holding yote's,picture's and maybe a video or 2 to come,stay tuned Trapping friends,cheers Peter Wild Land Trapping.

Coyote predictions.
What do you folks think coyotes might be going for this season. Prices up or down? I've heard a local buyer saying that he was planning on paying 80-90 bucks average, but I guess we will see. Personally, I've lost a lot of faith in NAFA after last year. Good luck to you all this upcoming season. Have good times, and be safe. Happy Thanksgiving!

I see prices as comparable to last year . No big carryover so fresh stock is for sale . Lets hope Im right . I know NAFA has had some shortfalls but it still beats FHA in my opinion .

I hope you're right! I'm going to hit the coyotes hard this year I think.
I've got my Rams painted, and bait lined up. I'm currently putting an engine and new dirt logic coil overs in my pickup. It should be quite the snare checking machine when I'm done.

I wanted to trap a couple hundred muskrats in October but due to commitments I didn't get the chance to put out my float sets yet. It was kind of a good thing because the sloughs are now covered in ice and snow and I would have been bringing them in shortly after putting them out. I'll put out some colony traps this week.
I don't think that the price for coyotes will change much but I think that the grades of fur will be much better this season. I think that we will get better averages due to a better quality of fur. JMO.

Coyotes seem to be plenty in my area seeing alot more pups then last year and I'm yet to see one with mange can't wait to start setting!! Hopfully the prices stay around the same as last year would be happy.

Last week i scratched the itch and burried a few bridgers. This morning i had this fella and he looks really good in and out. Waiting now for this weather to turn cold and baits are going in.

When I made this post I never dreamed we'd still be combining in the middle of November. I've managed to put a bit of bait in a few spots but no setting yet. It looks like I'll have to wait a little longer.

At least you got the chance to get the crops off the field.....that's good! I was out re-baiting my 3 sites yesterday and the combines were in the fields everywhere. The forecast is for 5-10 cms of snow Wednesday. The coyotes can wait a bit for you.

Very true Dave! I'm not complaining. They're calling for rain tomorrow so that's not good. We're combining wheat at over 20 percent moisture right now. We'll be drying grain for a very long time.
