Wait until prime time in the evening after the gophers have gone down . she will come out, looking to dig up some gophers, then whack her !

That's what i did last week ! Now I got to of her little fluff balls following us around the yard all day. They actually follow Mamba, they look like hen with her chicks ....lol

Stick your hand down each hole til you find the one where he bites down on your wrist. Quickly pull your hand out with him attached. Shake him loose the jump on him and slowly slip a blade between his shoulder blades. It will seem like it is taking for ever but it will actually go pretty quickly

So can you just sit in a gopher feild with a coyote call and try to call in a badger or what?

I have called probably 8-10 like that over the years. It wasn't necessarily in a 'gopher' field but where the badger had holes dug. I used a high pitched distress call like a cottontail.

I don't usually shoot any preds through the summer unless they are a problem.
Badgers however do not get a pass. Too hard on livestock legs if only one horse has a problem.

I bought a custom call from a friend one time. It was July but I was excited to try it. I hated the sound of the call and it was a little hard to blow. not up to my usual standards. I also had bought a Ruger #1 in 223 at a gunshow and wanted to try it. I had mounted a scope and sighted it in so was ready to go.

It was freaking hot out in the open pasture. I happened on some badger holes and decided to set up there as it was a mound that offered some field of view. I started to call and within seconds I heard snorting on my left.
A badger was half out of his hole looking around. I was wearing my ghillie and I edged the rifle around for the shot. 50feet away.
I lipsqueaked and he came out of the hole. He was so close I just sighted down the barrel and shot him. He was DRT but did the usual twist and squeal.

When he did a second badger came out to see what the commotion was. I shot that one too..

I sat there for a couple minutes collecting my thoughts and grinning. I went back to the call and two series later I had a pair of coyotes come in. With one trotting in at about 90 yards and one at 40, I shot the farthest one first. The close one spun and took off the same way she had come in, but stopped when she got to the other one doing the death spin. She joined him right there.

Now while calling a badger isn't really unusual, calling and killing two is, and getting a double on coyotes is unusual but doing all this with a Ruger #1 is a bit of a challenge as the rifle is a single shot for those not familiar with this model.

Oh and the call. I hated it, but it did call in coyotes nearly every time I used it.

I probably have it here somewhere amongst my pile of calls. If you want one I can tell you where to get it.

I have other calls that work better and are easier to use.

I was thinking if it nearly always worked what's there to hate? LoL

Of course by that thinking there would only be four calibres of rifles too.

i dunno about that. i have had no success calling them....although i know it works fors others. i have no magic for finding them either. i just seem to be a magnet for them. people always ask me to help them get one and i havent succeeded yet, but next time im out alone ill see one. no rhyme or reason to it, but i do seem to find them more often than a lot of guys do. no free passes from me either. if i see one, he is going to have a bad day.....

I have lots of calls that work most of the time. I guess I may be spoiled. I have no interest in a call that takes a ton of air or practice to work. I don't mind practicing with a call to get it to do something it wasn't necessarily designed to do. For instance, I have an ugly little antler call. It is an open reed call and one of the first my friend tried to make.

It will do coyote vocals, distress sounds for everything from a cottontail to a deer. I've had elk go into a snot blowing rage for some reason when I 'bugle' with it. It also does bird distress. So it is easy to operate and works well. I've called in a few hundred coyotes at least with it as well as I would guess several hundred deer.

I Still get bored listening to it and need a change up, so I use a different call, different sound.

Sometimes coyotes get clued in when they hear the same sounds, so it's good to change them up.

Those of you using archery tackle are you using Judo tips or broad heads? Saw one tonight where I go to shoot gophers and like a crack at it. I'll have to go shooting gophers one evening and then start looking for that badger when the gopher action slows down!
