Default Who else is looking forward to open water?

Only early march yet, but i'm itching for it!

Got perch skunked on Nakamun with the kids on Saturday, there was a family fishing not far from us that gave one of the little girls a perch to take home... I left my pride in one of the holes in the ice so if anyone finds it... Had a few nibbles but we got there late and the fish were shut down.

Please no open water wish winter would stay 2 more months. I'm sad to think that ice fishing is almost over for another year.

Mate, if you were pounding fish through the ice, you wouldn't be wishing for open water.

Get someone who produces to take you out and show you the ropes.

Just a matter of figuring it out. No different than open water.

I'm looking forward to open water (eventually), problem is, I am not looking forward to 6 weeks of run off.

No problem catching fish on open water, fly or spin... I've never been a huge lover of ice fishing, don't know why. Only do it for the kids that want to go to be honest.

Cool

All fine things have a season
Has no rhyme
Gives no reason
The ice will pass
Again sweet rivers I cast with ease on.

I can't frickin wait!

I had knee surgury in mid Jan. and have been absolutly house-bound and missing all this great weather for the past six weeks.

I got out twice on the ice before my surgury.

I can't wait to launch my beat up ol boat!

I'm certainly anxious seeing that I just bought a brand new boat. I can't be bothered to go ice fishing. Never caught a single fish through the ice so I've got no reason to like it. Besides, I've been working outside for the last 8 years so spending any extra time outside in winter isn't high on my list of things to do.

When it comes to fishing, only mention of ice should be in your drink at the end of the day!

Mind you lets keep the snow till say May 14th then it can go, lakes be ice free and I can go straight from the snowmobile seat to the boat seat.

sorry doc, i disagree.(thats 2 in a row). it's called fishing not catching. frozen, open and or flowing it's not just what you put in your creel(or release) but the experiance of being out there. hope the kids had some fun and your pride is safe and probably being hunted down by my dignity which i lost the last time i got skunked.

I have a brand new boat itching to see water. Still 2 months away. I guess that's what I get for buying a boat in the middle of winter.

I have reached a point where I want to throw the boat on the ice and sit in it until there's open water.

I'm eager for a couple reasons...
My new last year Mercury 40 four stroke was completely re-built due to water contamination in both the top end and bottom end.
Shifter seal put in backwards in bottom end.
Porous head blamed on top end....the power head is brand new.
Also had a misfire due to arking plug wires....not sure if it was built in a rush Friday or hungover Monday

Between the repaired motor, trolling buddy installed, and a new Humminbird 598 to play with I'm itching.
And I'm getting pale so need to get some sun!

Id have to agree with ya BBJ, Looked at mine yesterday and started thinking about the wally pigs from last yr...Rather fish in shorts and sunglasses than parkas....However I dont know which is worse getting the boat all geared up or putting all the ice gear away....

Fret not fellow open water lovers. April 1 is just around the corner. The red deer river at the ftr should have enough open water to at least start casting. Also my brown trout streams are usually open enough by mid April to wet a line.
Up to about a week or two ago I was fine without fishing but now I'm starting to get the itch.
Here are a few pictures to get us through this "hard" time....

See you on the water!
