Default Repurposed garage door panels.....

Going through the scrap pile and I came across some cut offs from some new garage doors. Final measurement was 47 7/8”x21”x1 3/4” panels, surrounded by 2x4’s to be 3” bigger around the frame.

I have three panels for right now, put up two of them.

The best part of the day was teaching my son about the sliding compound miter saw, using the drill with small bits and not breaking them, learning how to read metric and standard on the tape measure (he preferred standard, lol), and a little bit about support and structure.

Cool... Wonder why he liked standard system better? given the choice with no preconceived notion, metric makes way more sense!

I’m not to sure. Everything they do in school, including shop class, is metric. I showed him both.

I’m not one of the “old timers” and I was only taught metric in grade school. Then I got in to the real world 20 years ago and most everyone was still using standard. Metric can be easier, but it’s not what I prefer.

Sounds like a successful day all around and I bet he had a lot of fun helping you. My dad bought some garage door panels cheap cheap because of dings and he made a shelf along the ceiling down the one side of his shop with 1 and has the other he puts on saw horses for a random table. Works great!
