Default Gull Lake - Ice Survey c/w a Few Pics

Saturday Dec 09th ...

We went out to Gull, the ice had a bit more snow cover than Sylvan, was interesting looking how it froze, broke up & froze again, went out 200 yds it was 14” with 2” or so of white ice.

A few pics from today ….

Cheers

David

Scott’s ride last season.

Upgraded this year … first truck on Lake!

Lazer’d 200 yds from Truck

We were surprised Sylvan was ˝" or more than here.

Over 6 FOW

Interesting & Scary Ice Formations

With a few pressure cracks/ridges out further

Be careful and check the ice conditions for yourself before driving on Gull.

Nice report guys. I stopped by Sandy Point as well. There is zero snow to get on the lake. No good for skidoos but quads should do well. Checked the North side as well and it was similar ice. A big heave there too and a fresh one with water on the ice. Stood on either side of it near shore and was able to make either side go up and down a bit...which surprised me.

FYI, new cleats are gold! Gold Jerry Gold!

Snap .... considering the mild weather this year, I can't believe the ice conditions. As well, even with cleates I was slipping & sliding a bit while punching a few holes, hope Monday is a nice calm day with little to no wind.

Getting excited ...

Thanks for the post and thank you for taking the time to show everyone the conditions to expect on opening day. My friend and I are driving down from Edmonton and we were worried with the recent warm temps. Now thanks to you we know we are good to go Monday. Good luck to all.

Don't ever take anyone's word on whether or not the ice is safe. Walk out and check it yourself

Was fishin Gull on Thursday, we drove on to the ice and unloaded then dragged our stuff out to our spot.

There were a number of separations and ice heaves caused by that big wind the other day. We came on to this separation that I easily put my heal through. We did see a few trucks driving around but I wouldn't.

As well we got a lot of rain yesterday morning in Sylvan no idea if Gull got any rain, not sure what effect that would have on the ice, perhaps even more slippery.

Suggest check it out for yourself before you decide to venture out & stay away from these.

See ....

I was fishing Gull this morning for 5 hrs on the north side. All cracks were frozen soled. We did see a few trucks driving around but I did not. Very slow. Only so 2 whitefish and landed one of them. Read wire worm.

Nasty looking open water up by sandy point today. Phone was dead so I couldn’t get pictures but I would be extra careful out there.
