Default Quiet evening fishing...until.....

Was out at Cardiff tonight. Nice evening.....until......Two fellas show up cursing and swearing....to top it off they brought their dog. Now, I'm all for spending time outside with your pets but is it nessessary to let them run all over? Especially in the water right where other people are fishing?...I don't know about anyone else but that really ****es me off....Control them, show respect to others enjoying the fishing or leave the damn dogs at home...all done..feel better all ready....

Dogs are like kids , they need to get out in the country and run , when a dog comes over to me while l,m fishing l make friends with it and pet it , if it goes in the water for a swim , well if its a lab , they have to do it , their water dogs, l just laugh it off and reel in untill its finished , no big deal .
l dont take my dog out in the country to tie it up to a tree , would you do that to your kids.
Speaking of kids ,a carload of screaming kids will make me head for the car sooner than any little dog , but thats just my opnion.

That really sucks man. Common courtesy really seems to be going out the window these days. On the bright side at least ya got some fishing in. The friggin' Bow is so high right now that it's probably not going to be fishable until the end of July or worse.

Oh yeah. BUD, that carload of kids? Were they screaming before or AFTER they ran into you?

Ps. by the sounds of it these animal owners dont give two sh%ts about you tell them to move there animals away fom your space next time .

if you cant/wont controle your dog, you shouldnt own one.....if you can't/won't controle your children you shouldnt be allowed to breed.

Unfortunately Drake...... dogs much like children are usually under control, but at times do things that are beyond their owners/parents desires. Life is too short to get that uptight about a dog or kids ruining your silence/solitude. I would suggest that if solitude is what you want go somewhere that is not a major use area for everyone!! Otherwise take the good with the bad.....and have a sense of humor! It will take you much further in life, and it is soooo much easier to laugh and have fun then grump and b!tch.

I have no problem with dogs.....i have problems with dog owners who insist on taking there ill mannered mutts out to public places and letting them run off leash. If you cant controle your dog, leave it at home. A dog "just being a dog" is no excuse......i have three labs at home, and they are well behaved, i trust them off leash, but still choose my times and places. A public fishing area is no place for a dog to "burn off steam".

Kids will be kids, and i enjoy seeing them haveing fun. But a parent who stands idely by while their kids throw rocks in the lake near other fisherman, or otherwise blatantly interferes with other peoples pleasure should get a lesson on parenting....or shouldnt breeed.

Really? I would say that a public fishing area is the perfect place for a dog to burn off steam.

Gotta go with the easy-going crowd on this one...

dogs will be dogs and kids will be kids sure...but rude behavior is rude behavior none the less. as parents and pet owners we need to be in tune with what is around us and what our kids or pets are doing. respect goes both ways. that being said...a public place is enjoyed and owned by all..and we have to be prepared to share it with others and to accept that we might not always get the spot to ourselves and that people will not always act the way we feel they should.

I take my dog fishing with me all the time. I hardly ever leash him (unless other dogs are around), but I've never had a problem with him running into other people's lines. My dog is the protective type so he stays relatively close to me and he heels when told anyway. Also, I tend not to fish right close to other people anyway (which to me is a common courtesy in itself), so if my dog feels like swimming or splashing around it doesn't effect anyone but me.

I think this is a hit or miss situation. If my dog tried to go splash around in front of other people's lines I'd stop him. But if someone else's dog did that to me I really wouldn't care.

The cursing and yelling though...I'd definitely curse and yell back.

I agree with Bud too (and I too would never have believed that to be possible) but only with respect to the last sentence of his post regarding screaming kids vs dogs.
I'm a lab owner and have been for over thirty years. I love the breed and like most other dogs but I don't believe they should be allowed to ruin someone else's fishing any more than they should be allowed to crap on your neighbor's lawn, chase his livestock or scatter his garbage around.

P.S. Before someone jumps all over me for hating kids, I should say that I'm a grandfather. Got four grand children. Love 'em all and like most other kids. Kids and dogs can be taught to behave properly. When they do misbehave, it's almost always the fault of the parent or the dog owner.

Holy smokes, will wonders never cease - I agree with Bud too!

If a happy dog 'interferes' with life, don't take it so seriously!

Again, I'm not saying dont bring your dogs....but i would at least expect a little respect...I too have fished with many people with dogs and for the most part have had no problems...but when you are fishing and someone sets up ten yards away and doesnt control their dog, it can be a little annoying...not even a "sorry about that "or nothin.....and i wasnt aware that owning a dog was a license to be ignorant....

One thing I do which might help next time you have a problem with a dog is show the dog some authority. Tell the dog to sit or lie down...if the dog doesn't, say it loudly enough for the owner to hear. Either the dog will stay still for you or the owner will realize they look like idiots because someone else is disciplining their dog and call it back.

I have this problem when fishing the Glenmore Reservoir. Kayakers and canoers will come and paddle right over my line...SLOWLY. Don't know why they feel the need to paddle so close to shore, but they do every time.

Yes it happens everywhere and is just enough to make a person weary about every other person on the lake, when 97% of people are good outdoormen-women!

Peace and respect are hard found commodities...I live on a lake and I feel most people non outdoorsy people just have to let loose and be seen and heard. Honk the horn, holler HELLOOO to hear thier echo...ect. If your doing something...they gotta come over to you to see what your doing or be seen doing what there doing. Most don't have clue what to do by themselves they just know they're away from civilization as they know it. Ever stop and get your camera out to take a pic...sunset...butterflies or what ever... out comes their camera....try it in Banff on #93 you'll cause a traffic jam...I know what ya mean surfr> chain
