Default Fly Fishing Gear

Looking at getting back into fly fishing now after been gone from it for 10 years. I need a new fly rod, reel and line. Any suggestions to the 3? I would like to stay around the $400-500 for all 3 if possible, but I do not want to cheap out either. Please any suggestions would be great!

A couple things that might help with suggestions;

What species are you targeting?
What rivers or areas in general do you plan to fish?
Do you also need flies, tippet, etc. included in your budget?

Trout mostly. Streams & Rivers in BC and Montana mostly. I have all the other stuff ready. So just a rod, reel and line. Looking at St Croix Imperial rod, Orvis Clearwater Large Arbor Fly Reel and Cortland 444 rocket taper fly line in either 5 or 6 weight to be versitile. That maybe can help as to what kind of equipment I am looking at.

That's a pretty good combo you suggested, I'd go with that. You could also take a look at echo but I love my St Croix Imperial.

I really like the Shadow line. You can get packages on their website. Google shadow flyfishing.

I love this question!

if it were me, right at this moment, I'd go Grey's GR50 or GR30 (depending on weather you like a medium action or fast), Airflo tactical taper, and whatever reel pleases your eyes, hands, and ears.

I'd go 5wt, maybe 6wt if you like to throw big streamers.

Good choice on the rod n reel,nothing wrong with that combo.Id go 5wt as the most versatile/do-all rod for trout,6wt is a bit overkill for most small-med streams IMHO and for sure more rod than you need to land 99% of trout on bigger flows like Bow,Crow etc.,but a 6 is nice for huckn nymph rigs,big weighted streamers,and bucking the wind a bit better.
Cortland 444 is a timeless old favorite,but I've gone to Airflo lines on all of my reels these days,I won't buy anything but.
