Default blue green algae

Hey,

I have been seeing all the reports of blue green algae. Who follows these warnings? I hear of people still waterskiing at Lake Isle. Is this really a big concern? Should the government be doing more than just a warning?

I follow the warnings. My kids follow the warnings. Any informed educated individual follows the warnings. Yes it is a big concern. I have personal experience with blue green algae and yes it can make you very sick. Swimming against the warnings of AHS is not only irresponsible as an adult, but pretty stupid to be honest. What more can the government do other than issue a public warning? Even with a public warning you still have blatant morons that disregard it.

Seems to be getting worse and worse every year with more lakes being hit and earlier in the season.

Sure the government should start looking at preventing all the pollution and fertilizer and septic run off that is turning our lakes green, but they won't!

I know of several cases where bird dogs became sick and died from swimming in this stuff.

cyanobacteria is bad news. Stay away and stay healthy.

Stay informed and stay safe.

I would never risk going in. I am just surprised that other people do.

Default Lake Isle

Waterskied And swam in it last night.

Read the links AHS put with their warnings.

I do keep the dog away from the lake unsupervised.

Big bloom building by He HO Ha cooler weather and some wind will break it up.

Treat the bloom like dog crap on the sidewalk. Don't eat it, run it into I hair or step in it. No reason to not use the sidewalk.

Been in it every year since I was 6 (39 years ago) never had an itch or hives.

unfortunately that's a gross misconception. You are lucky. Just because you cant actually see it doesn't mean there are blooms below that contaminate the surrounding water.
