Default Grizz does Death Valley

Needed a little break from winter, so we headed to Vegas. Rented a car and spent two days exploring Death Valley. Skipped most of the spots we'd seen on our first trip. Just a few of the high lights here, wife and I took about 400 pictures on the trip.

Underground houses at Soshone junction, dug right out of the rock. Cemetery there as well, which one would assume holds the former residents, some of them quite recent.

Lot of interesting geology. Hard to believe one of the driest place on the planet is shaped by water. Alluvial fans like this line both sides of the valley.

A Death Valley coyote, belive it or not. At the south end, where it's not quite as dry. Very tame and well trained, must have been fed by tourists repeatedly, actually stood in the middle of the road, forcing us to stop and headed for the driver door, looking for a hand out. didn't get one.

Badwater, lowest place on the continent, 258 ft. below sea level.

Panamint sand dunes.

Ubehebe Crater, caused by a volcanic steam explosion between 800 and 2000 years ago.

This one's for Marco. Wife at the bottom of the crater. 10 minutes down and they said it would be 45 back up. She did it in 25.

Not Death Valley, just a trail ride we did at Red Rock.

I love Death Valley! Great pics!
Did you see any snakes?
I hiked Red Rock last month and adored that place too.

Hiked Red Rock two years ago and all we saw was a tiny lizard, which didn't displease the wife. Did Valley of fire as well, that time. Dessert definitely has a beauty of it's own.

Nice pics! I did a similar trip - rented a Harley out of Vegas and rode to DV and back in one very long day, about 450 miles if I remember correctly. The roads were great down there with no cracks or frost heaves. Its something I'd recommend to anyone!

Probably the only place in the western states I still need to see. Sounds like a nice trip.

Love those geo formations Grizz.

Did you get to see any Road Runners? They are one neat little bird.
