Sounds like I will be there at some point, that weekend. Any body interested in gold panning? I will bring a couple spare pans, in anybody is wanting to play in the sand.

How are the roads in to the site? I'm concerned about pot holes, etc. The Volvo bottoms out pretty easily in the back when it is fully loaded, and I don't want to do any damage to it.

Is anyone able to comment on bear activity in the area?

Also, what is the child count looking like? We've got one 15-year-old, and one really little one.

Road is great will have no problem. There will be bear moose elk deer you name it out there. But camp will be active enough that will be no prob. Not sure omn the child count. I know Steve will be there and he is just a big ass kid. Every1 is invited big or small

Great. I'll have a chat with the other half and the oldest boy to see if they're up for it. It may be a little too far for us right now (Google is calculating 3 hours) . . . but I think it would be a lot of fun

Default Road conditions

Highway 54 west of Innisfail is torn up from #781 to Spruceview. New intersection being built just west of Innisfail at the golf course. It may be easier to go west on the new overpass south of Innisfail(Cottonwood Road), then jog north to the Little Red Deer road and cross the Dam at Glennifer Lake to Spruceview. It will save some headaches in traffic.

As for gold in that immediate area, it's a maybe. I will grab some gravel from one of my hot spots.

I can be really immature if that counts?

anyone coming from Calgary can come in at Red Deer, Edmonton too, take hwy 11 west aprox 40 min and 22 south aprox 15min to the Clearwater store than west on 54 to Swan Lake Road aprox 25 min.
May take the drive and get exact km to the campsite and the km to all the fishing spots. If I have time I will have detailed maps for everyone to all the lakes and streams in the area

It should only take about 2 hours 30 / 35 mins from your house depending on the traffic.

I have found that the two easiest ways from Calgary is 1) north on the QE2 and cut across ( west ) at Olds to Sundre then up to Caroline then go west. OR 2) Strait up north on hwy 22 from Cochrane threw Sundre all the way to Caroline, then go west.

From the North, I found it easiest to come down hwy 22 ( south ) from Rocky and turn west and the clearwater store. ( instead of turning east to Caroline )

Depending on where you live ( starting point ) it will be the deciding factor on your route to the gathering - whatever is the shortest and easiest

Hubby is resisting. He feels it is too far from emergency services after what he did to my eldest on our last trip! See this post: http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=38376. I'm gonna keep working on him!
