Using a fly on a spinning rig....


I haven't tried it yet but it does look promising and it lets you get out there with your casts while staying on shore. Anyone give it a go? Thinking it might be pretty good for the kids.........and maybe even myself on those windy days where fly fishing is a bust; for me anywhoo

Always a good way to go if you dont have a fly rod. Use the smallest bobber (teardrop) you can, I dont like the waterfilled ones because they offer a lot of resistance to the fish with the extra weight, but some people swear by them. I use the technique for trout and also perch, works great .

Believe it or not this is also a widely used technique for Atlantic salmon on the west coast of Ireland. Lets a guy cover a lot more water than conventional fly gear. We would put the bobber on the bottom and run one or two flies on short leaders above it - and it does work !!!!!

If you are going to try it, make sure to use "tippet". I tried just using my normal 6lb test and it curled around itself. But the bobber on your normal line then use a swivel and tie the tippet to that.

I found that 4lb Trilene works well
