a borrowed left handed remington model 700 30 06. I was 15 and shot my first 6 point bull elk. managed to get 2 into him despite the fact I had never fired a big rifle before that day, nor was I a lefty .. (double lung both shots) .
have had a win. model 70 now for 30 plus years (270)
I religiously shoot nosler partitions
still remember the shots, the elk cart wheeled over backwards and broke the 5th tine off... thanks for the memory.......

Remington Model 760 with a 4X Bushnell scope in .308 Win. Shot 180gr SuperX PPSP at the time. Never chrono'd it but the combination had nice mushroomed bullets when they were found.......passed on to my step-son who also shot his first deer with it. It's now waiting in a safe to be passed on to one of his kids one day

Browning BLR in .308 with a fixed 4x Tasco.
Took my first WT, MD, moose and sheep with it.
Hoping that one of my youngsters will take a liking to it!

First rifle and animal
Mine was a Parker Hale sporterized .303 when I was 14. Dad traded a model 70 for it (not the wisest move haha). Still have it in the safe and the antlers in the basement. While I don't shoot it much anymore, it is one of the rifles I will never get rid of.

After saving up while working at KMART in Douglastown NB I bought me a Carl Gustav M38 in 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser.
I miss that rifle and caliber as it accounted for many a black tail deer on Vancouver Island.

The first animal I killed was a Whitetail doe. I was 15. I borrowed my friends dad's 250 Savage with an old Redfield dot scope. Don't even remember what model it was. It may have even been a lever??? Sad that I don't remember that. The next spring I bought a 700 ADL in .270 Win. It had a K4 on it.
The best part of the whole deal is that my friend's dad made me learn. No free passes from that guy. I looked at him when it was time to gut it and he said "I don't know why you're looking my way. When I looked at Shaun's (his son) Hunter's Ed book, I saw the section for gutting. Here's your knife kid. Get to it."
I was terrified but I dove right in there and to this day I hate it when somebody else does it and starts flinging hair everywhere. I do every animal that gets killed from anyone that I hunt with. They think it's great. My OCD says it's great.

Model 70 in 30-06. It was a pre 64 model that I eventually passed many years and harvests later I passed it to my brother-in-law who eventually passed it to his younger brother who is lined up to pass it back to my eldest son.
I remember going to buy the gun from some ex-policeman who had a room filled with rifles. I was drooling over some expensive magnums and after a couple of questions and test firing he gently suggested the cheaper and more reasonable powered one was a better fit for me. I had the equivalent of about $2000 in my pocket and came out of that room with a rifle, a scope, a sling, a box of ammo and $1500.

A sporterized 303 Lee Enfield my Dad bought at the army & Navy store in Regina for $22, gave it to my cousin after I bought a mauser 98 in 270 win. The old gun was passed around for years, sitting in someone's closet now.

ended up borrowing my dads tikka t3 in 270 WSM after a long season of terrible luck with my savage 111 in 7mm rem mag, took my first whitetail 4x4 that year. could have been the factory scope on the savage not being able to handle the recoil. thats all in the past now. haha

First big game rifle I shot was my grandfathers savage 99 in .303 savage. My dads a farmer but never really hunted but he would buy ammo at UFA and let me go after yotes with it. Haha I was about 16 walking the fields with that rifle, open sights and a toy pair of binoculars my brother got out of a cereal box. Got my first yote spot and stalk at 40 yards, don't have time for that anymore!
First rifle I used on deer and was actually mine was a .303 British that my uncle gave me. Put a 3-9 bushnell on it and killed my first deer, a Muley buck on the run at about 125y. Still have both guns probably have em till I'm gone

Browning BAR in .270, it was a Belgium made rifle. Type 1 I believe. My Dad bought it off a friend of his for 400 bucks back in 1983 or 84. Took my first White tail deer with that gun. A number of years later the barrel cracked on it so It was stripped down so it couldn't be used. Still have it. Tried to get another barrel for it. no dice.
