Default Scenic Drives (Edmonton area)

I went for a drive with the family on the weekend. Took HWY 37 west of St.Albert through Onoway, then down to Twp 540 to chickakoo lake (absolutely packed parking lot), took a bunch of backroads and eventually back up to 37 and went home. Nice drive and something to do once in a while.

Anyone have some other places, no more than a half day round trip that would be a nice drive?

Checked my Backroads Mapbook and me and the boys are going to drive to the Victoria Settlement Saturday just to get out of the house....hopefully we’ll get some nice photos.

That is a very nice drive, lot of historical landmarks along the way too. Enjoy!

Funny this thread just popped up. I was just talking to the wife lastnight that once this big snowfall is over and the weather turns nicer I told her we are gonna load the kids in the truck and hit the road and just go for a tour. We only moved to Alberta a year and a half ago and haven’t had much for free time to just explore. Any more suggestions from the Edmonton area would be appreciated. Just looking for day trips also.

There's a nice drive along the Tawatina River valley. I believe it goes from somewhere near the old ski hill north through Rochester,Perryvale and Colinton and continues into Athabasca. Never drove it all myself but heard good things about it. Especially nice in the fall when the leaves are turning. Be prepared to dodge lots of wildlife as well

We took the drive today.
Very nice day, lots of photos taken.
What a road...in my younger days I used to compete in road rallies such as the Rocky Mountain Rally https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4SvUM6nyxAY
Parts of the drive today really got the juices flowing.

I always enjoyed the stretch of hyway from Thorhild north to hyway 55 and come out at Athabasca. I did that many time’s back in the day when I owned a bike.

Glad you enjoyed it. Those old river lot surveys sure made for some interesting obstacles. Like a house the road had to be built around.

Noticed that....smack dab in the middle of where the road would have been.
The light colored new door seemed out of place though 😀
