You're the one has to carry it, you decide.

It's more than you need but if you don't mind carrying it and works for you then it's right for you.

If you don't walk a lot won't notice the extra weight.

I have scopes that go up to 14x,have never used that much on an animal.

I also have a 3x10 x40 cds Leupold on my 7 rem mag. Is by far my favorite scope, you made a sound choice.

Have a 2.5-16x50 with the Mildot reticle on my go to rifle. Works fine in the bush at 2.5 and more than enough at 16 reaching out into a field/cutblock or down a pipeline, really like it for what I need.....

Optics are the most important part. Can never be a bad idea to over buy good optics that you are happy with. Clarity, dull light, distance, these factors change every day and all day. good optics compensate for all of these changes.
you will never be disappointed in overbuying, but very disappointed if you under buy.

I'd say that's bang on the money. I have no issue spending as much on optics as I do on the rifle itself.

Because many really good optics have a wide range of settings like 3-18 - the lower settings are great for close work and high settings really shine on the range or when seated and set up over a big area.

The only reason I'd say "too much scope" would be an issue is due to weight or physical size sitting on top of the rifle, but I don't holster my rifle on a horse, nor do I crawl bush too much - so I tend to get "more" versus "less" magnification and better glass. Low light, and clarify at range is the pay-off.
