Default found bear hung in tree?

I was out today and came across a blond black bear with a wire around it's neck dead 40 feet up a tree. Was it trapped? If so, how and why 40' in a tree? it looked like it was snared around neck with the wire going to a small piece of wood then wrapped 10 or so times around the small piece of wood then to tree. The bear left claw marks climbing the tree. then it was hanging way up there. Just wondering if anyone ever head or seen such a thing? Maybe it go caught up in wire and climbed tree?

Default Snared Bear

Sounds like a Trapper forgot to pick up a snare and the bear got caught and climbed the tree !!!

Just my opinion.

I have never heard of this before.

An experienced trapper wouldn't necessarily use a wire. A bear can be held with a good shoelace. However, a cable would be a more likely device to use.

I would think it more likely that it got tangled in some loose wire, then climbed the tree.

Any half decent snare would have held it on the ground. Besides there is no way to set a snare up a tree with any hope of catching a bear up there.

ya i didn't think it would be necessary to trap anything that high up a tree. It looks like it was tangled in some wire, went up tree some how fell with wire around neck. By far the strangest thing i've seen around here.

I always figured gophers committed suicide by running onto the highway and standing up to make sure some part of the vehicle hit them.
First I ever heard of a bear commiting suicide. Hmmm. Maybe got jilted?
