Put down saran wrap (has to be nice and tight) before the hockey tape. That way if you ever go to sell your auger and someone doesn't like your hockey tape job, they arent left with a mess. You can use an exacto knife to cut it off and redo it without any sticky residue either when the tape starts to wear down.

I used spray on box liner stuff they sell in the aerosol cans. Looks great and fairly grippy, made the ole girl look like new again.

My grips are steel and just painted black. Never have had to repaint them.

I used the sports wrap that you can buy for badminton or tennis racquets. The beginning of the wrap goes over itself to stay tight and I finished the loose end of the wrapping with black electrical tape. It has stayed on for years and the best part is that it is warmer to hold than having just metal handles.

Does that help with the vibration transfer as well? My Jiffy white lightning vibrates so bad, my hands get numb after the 3rd hole.

Just sold my white lighting for a mako. My jiffy also vibrated a lot and didn’t have anything on the handles. There is a little chunk taken out of the handle bar so I’m going to peel it all off and spray plasti dip till it becomes thick enough, tape it or foam it. Still undecided.
