Default Mitigation of Mirage

Looking to share strategies for mitigating down range mirage in (single power) high magnification scopes. A friend loaned me this “modified” objective lens cap to try. Any other strategies you care to share?

I have seen barrel heat cause problems,I try not to take to many shots in a row.I have seen some velcro barrel straps that look like they might work.

My primary focus is “down range” mirage caused by heat rising from the ground which can be an issue on hot days, or even when it gets a bit cooler and the sun comes out. With a variable power rig, a lower magnification setting can often be set to a point the mirage is not a factor, but with single power, high magnification ... things can look a little wiggly.
I have also been told that adjusting parallax just a bit out-of-focus can help but have never tried that?
